Tropical-Fruit Skewers with Green-Tea Ice Cream

Mango and pineapple are cut, skewered, and broiled. A glaze made from sake and honey goes with the fruit's flavors perfectly and perks up the sweetness of a scoop of store-bought green-tea ice cream.

Ingredients

Serves 4

  • 1/2 cup sake
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 large mangoes, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 medium pineapple, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 pint store-bought green-tea ice cream
  • Hot green tea, for serving

Directions

  1. Preheat broiler. Whisk sake and honey in a large bowl. Add mangoes and pineapple, and toss to coat. Strain liquid into a small saucepan; place fruit in a bowl. Place pan over medium heat, and cook until sauce is reduced to a glaze, 3 to 5 minutes. (You should have about 1 tablespoon.)
  2. Thread fruit pieces onto skewers. Place skewers on a baking sheet, and broil until warmed through, about 4 minutes. Brush with glaze. Scoop ice cream into 4 bowls, and serve with a fruit skewer and cups of green tea.
