It's never a bad idea to get ahead of the holiday shopping rush, and before you start, you'll need to know when your favorite retailers are open. When it comes to Target, you're going to have to plan a different day other than Thanksgiving to shop. The retailer just announced they will be closed on the holiday, Thursday, November 25.

According to a news release, the reason for the closure is "to minimize crowds and help our guests take the stress out of getting the best deals of the season." The release notes that Target was closed this past year on Thanksgiving, and the decision worked well for the company. "The response was so positive that we'll carry it forward this year, keeping our Target stores closed all day long on Thanksgiving Day," the release explains. "This is just one example of how our evolving strategy is meeting the needs of our business and our guests."

Although Target will be closed on turkey day, the retailer will be open on Black Friday, November 26. The Target website notes that hours will vary by location, and customers can check the store locator for information on their local shop. The company's annual Black Friday ad has yet to be released, but the website says to sign up for emails to be the first to know when it will drop.

The announcement might change your Thanksgiving plans, but you can still spend the day eating delicious food and enjoying the company of loved ones (all while avoiding large crowds.)
