Sterling silver pendant necklace, 'Paloma' (Mexico)

"To design this necklace, I was inspired by the shape of the milagros mexicanos or 'Mexican miracles,' a custom still preserved by many Catholic Mexicans, who will pin a steel brooch in the shape of a body part to a saint's robe. The brooch represents an ailment in that specific part," says Maria Belen Nilson as she explains the surreal essence of this handcrafted sterling silver pendant necklace. It is centered by a dove spreading its wings while becoming the face of a woman with eyes downcast. The artisan crafts the necklace with an oxidized finish on the main body of the pendant and a contrasting highly polished finish on the pendulum-like dangles.
