Batik cotton wall hanging, 'Our Customs' (Ghana)

Beginning his art at a young age, Ghana's Edward Adeniran designs and crafts this wall hanging from cotton. He decorates the hanging's black surface with intricate, multicolored African motifs, inspired by rich variation among African cultures. He adds "Africans are so attached to their way of life that they do not mind other cultures." Adeniran applies the designs using the batik method, where a wax resist is diligently applied to the fabric before applying colorful dyes.
