But if you recently purchased a new bag, you may need to toss it out. General Mills is recalling 2-, 5-, and 10-pound bags of its Gold Medal flour due to possible salmonella infantis contamination. The recall affects two date codes of Gold Medal Unbleached All Purpose Flour in the 5- and 10-pound bags, as well as two date codes of Gold Medal Bleached All Purpose Flour in the 2- and 5-pound bags. According to the Food and Drug Administration, all other types of Gold Medal Flour are not affected by this recall. The recall was issued after salmonella infantis was found while sampling the 5-pound bag product. The affected items were distributed nationwide to Walmart, Kroger, Publix, and other major retailers across the country. The administration also states that consumers should refrain from eating any raw products made from flour, as salmonella infantis is killed by heat through baking, frying, sautéing, or boiling products made with flour. Additionally, all surfaces should be cleaned properly after contact with flour or dough.
