Joelle Samaha, 24, is a recent graduate from the Fashion Institute of Technology. In her final year, Joelle received the 2014 FIT Critics Choice Award for the collection she presented during the prestigious FIT senior fashion show. Joelle’s fashion journey began after falling in love with the craft of making clothes while taking a basic sewing class in high school. A self-proclaimed perfectionist, Joelle began fine-tuning her sewing techniques by designing and constructing her own creations -- eventually putting together an entire collection before graduation. She even made her own prom dress! Looking back, Joelle admits it wasn’t her finest work, but says the piece holds a special place in her heart, because it gave her the confidence to apply to fashion school, and to become a designer. During college, Joelle got the chance to develop her evening wear design skills with internships at top designers known for their gorgeous gowns, Vera Wang and J. Mendel. Joelle describes her style as sophisticated and fashion forward, and believes that her strengths in design lie in her time management skills, and attention to detail. When it comes to constructing her designs, Joelle feels that her desire and determination to create exactly what she envisioned sets her apart from the rest of the Shriek or Chic: Martha's Haute Halloween Challenge contestants.
