This recipe is amazing and turned out perfectly! It’s definitely going into my annual Christmas cookie recipe collection. So good and so simple!! I did add 1/4 tsp peppermint extract tithe icing and piped it onto the cooled cookies using a ziplock bag instead of spreading it on with a knife. Much more simple. Can’t wait to share these with my friends and family!

These may be the best cookies I've ever made and that says a lot coming from a chocolate lover like myself. I used crushed candy canes instead of the round candies and I opted to flavor the icing with mint. The cookie has a subtle mint flavor with just the right amount of chocolate chips. They were a big hit with my kids and my guests.

can the dough be made ahead of time and placed in the freezer until ready to bake?

I tried this recipe twice these past few days. the first try was a disaster. The texture of the dough was "crumbly". i thought maybe I did not let the butter soften enough. Today i tried again. i took the butter out at 3:30 am and started making again at 8 and same thing happened, crumbly dough. they fell apart when i scoopped them out. WHAT DID I DO WRONG. It did have a great taste to the ones i made but they looked awful. Please help!!!!!!!!!!

MS10607693I don't work for Martha Stewart but I'm a pastry chef and cooking school teacher. I just made these after seeing your request for help. Couple of tips for you: After having the problem twice , third times the charm! Make sure you set aside all ingredients before you begin(mis en place).Your correct to let the butter completely soften, good job.If both of your attempts are still crumbly are you using the maximum heavy cream vs less, are you mixing enough and not just lightly?Chef Reenie

I made these cookies today and also found that the cookie dough was crumbly so instead of using a scoop I used my hands to ball them up and flatten a bit as well and they turned out wonderful.... hope this helps a bit

Delicate crispy treats the whole family will enjoy! Doogums, my Pomeranian doberman x breed, absolutely devoured everything when we went to market last weekend. Silly dog! good thing it wasn't chocolate or we'd be at the sad place
