I don't always have time to stop at the store after work, but luckily, I have a well-edited pantry of staples that provides me with many paths to delicious dinners."
My Supper Staples:
- Cured meat like bacon, salami, or sausage
- Onions and garlic
- Parmesan and cheddar
- Olive oil
- Dried or canned beans
- Olives and capers
- Rice and grains
- Canned anchovies
- Tuna and sardines
- Chicken broth
- Canned tomatoes
- Frozen vegetables, such as peas, corn, and spinach
Here are some go-to pantry meal ideas.
Lentils with Sausages
Cook lentils as in Lentils with Eggs and Greens. Sauté sliced onions and apples. Serve onions, apples and sausages over lentils.
Sauté a diced onioin and a few minced garlic cloves; add a large can of whole peeled tomatoes, crushed and a can of chicken broth. Simmer 10 minutes, then purée.
Sauté garlic, red-pepper flakes, and an anchovy or two in olive oil. Add some capers and black olives and a large can of whole peeled tomatoes, crushed. Heat through and toss with pasta.
