Dr. Seuss Magnetic Felt Fish Game

One of Dr. Seuss’s most popular books, “One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish,” comes to life with this charming craft. It makes a fun kids' birthday-party activity.

Resource: 100 percent wool felt available from Magic Cabin; mighty magnets available from The Container Store; Fabri-Tac permanent fabric adhesive available from Beacon Adhesives.


  • Standard 1/4-inch dowels

  • Electrical tape

  • Ribbon

  • Double-sided tape

  • Measuring tape

  • Scissors

  • Paper clips

  • Felt

  • Magnets

  • Fabric glue


  1. Wrap dowel with colored electrical tape up to the last 3 inches. Attach ribbon to end of dowel with small piece of double-sided tape.

  2. Cut ribbon to between 20 and 30 inches, depending on the height of the child. Finish wrapping dowel with electrical tape, securing ribbon underneath. Tie paper clip to end of ribbon.

  3. Download and print fish template. Using double-sided tape, attach template to a piece of felt and cut shape from felt. Glue magnet to mouth area of fish with fabric glue.

  4. Glue fish to another rectangle of felt, sandwiching magnet inside. Trim rectangle of felt to shape of fish.

  5. Repeat to make fishing poles and fish in desired number of colors.
