Martha Reveals Her Ideal First Date (It Involves a Private Plane)
Valentine's Day is a little over a week away, and Martha wants to help everyone have a special date night at home. Our founder joined Stephen Colbert on The Late Show to share her recipe for a delicious Vanilla Heart-Shaped Cake with Raspberry-and-Custard-Filling, the ideal dessert for February 14, and discussed all-things love, including her Valentine's Day plans and her idea of the perfect first date.
While Martha and Colbert made the layered cake—a confection garnished with raspberries, crème-fraîche frosting, and coconut that starred on the cover of the January/February 2022 issue of Martha Stewart Living ($3.99, barnesandnoble.com)—the talk show host asked our founder if she had a special someone of her own to celebrate the holiday of love with. "Not really, only in my dreams," she replied.
However, if our founder was tasked with planning a date, she has a few really good ideas. "An ideal date is to get on a plane, a private plane, and to fly off to some mysterious location, like a private island," Martha told Colbert. "And then have a nice weekend with really, really nice beaches and swimming and food." When Colbert asked her if this would be a first date, she noted that "it could be a first date, it could be a second date. I like first dates like that, actually. You know, why bother, otherwise?"
And while our founder said she'll be having a quiet Valentine's Day this year, Martha recently opened up about the status of her dating life on Watch What Happens Live in December. When the show's host, Andy Cohen, asked if Martha was currently involved with anyone, she replied, "No... I shouldn't say no. I mean yes, but I'm not going to tell you," PEOPLE reported.
