This Couple's Wedding in Palm Springs Incorporated Jewish Traditions and Thoughtful Speeches

Casey and Ryan met in May 2015; they were hanging out with mutual friends at a sports bar in Los Angeles, and although he didn't call her for a few months after they exchanged digits, she decided to give him a shot anyway when he finally did. Four years later, the couple was driving down the Pacific Coast Highway when Ryan told Casey he needed to make a pitstop. He took her to the bluffs in the Palisades where they found a picnic set up with pillows, blankets, and Champagne. Ryan had coordinated with Casey's sisters and friends to pull off a thoughtful proposal. Afterwards, they celebrated at Ryan's family home with friends, family, more bubbly, and Casey's favorite Italian food.

The couple originally planned their wedding for May 2021, and ended up postponing it to September; they asked guests to be vaccinated or get tested ahead of their party. Although a few loved ones couldn't make it at the very last minute, the couple ultimately hosted 140 guests at their Palm Springs wedding. They chose Parker Palm Springs; it was only a few hours outside of Los Angeles, still felt like a destination. "I wanted the wedding to feel like a weekend getaway," Casey says. "An experience that our guests would remember and enjoy, not just because of our big day, but because it was one of the first times everyone would be getting together since the beginning of COVID."

Although dealing with the uncertainty of the pandemic caused some anxiety throughout the planning process, Casey leaned on her expertise as an interior designer and hired her friends Katie and Erica of Two Hearts Events to personalize every last detail. The pair also hired Christy and Chelsea from Hello Gem as their coordinators; they helped manage the timelines. "I couldn't have done it without the help of all these lovely ladies," Casey says. And though they didn't opt for a set theme, the bride and groom used the hotel's Hollywood-glam aesthetic as inspiration for the big-day design.

The couple's letter-pressed invitations featured the couple's monogram, which was used throughout the big-day signage and paper for a touch of personalization. The suite also featured an embossed breeze block border as a nod to the statement wall at the entrance of the Parker Palm Springs.

Satin Sweetheart

Casey worked with bridal stylist Samantha at The Bold and Bridal to curate a cohesive bridal look. "She helped me determine which type of wedding dress would look good on my body and where to go based on how I wanted to feel on the most important day of my life," Casey says. When Samantha suggested Galia Lahav, she fell in love with the "Anna" gown. The silk satin dress featured a structured bodice and off-the-shoulder straps. "The material felt like butter, but the slit was way too high for me, so we decided to customize it and make it lower," Casey says—though she's glad she didn't lower the slit too much, because it ended up being a 110-degree day. Casey held a loose bouquet of mostly garden roses and dahlias in shades of ivory, blush, and pale yellow.

The Vows

The bride's uncle officiated the couple's ceremony and included some traditional Jewish elements; they broke a glass, sipped the wine, and shared a few prayers. The duo wrote their own vows; Casey made sure to poke fun at Ryan's passion for his real estate work in her promises, which got a big laugh from guests (many of whom work with him!). The couple chose Aloe Black's "All Love Everything" for the recessional.

The Toasts

After guests enjoyed a delicious dinner and danced to the live band for a while, the couple's closest loved ones shared speeches. "My favorite part of the wedding, in general, was listening to all of our friends and family's speeches and toasts," Casey says. "Having everyone that we love from all over the country together for the first time was so memorable, especially in the context of the pandemic."

The couple spent their honeymoon in Maui. To those currently planning their wedding, Casey suggests speaking up when you need to: "This is your only wedding, so be kind, but don't try to do everything yourself or not express yourself for fear of being a pain."
