"On our first date we watched the movie Up and though he was trying to play it cool, he cried within the first five minutes," says Stephanie. "I immediately knew that he was a keeper!" After Adam graduated, the couple's two-year age difference meant they kept their relationship going long-distance until Stephanie joined him in Sacramento post-grad. In February 2019, Adam surprised Stephanie with tickets for a last-minute trip to Nashville, one of their favorite spots, to celebrate their eighth anniversary. Before their dinner reservation, Adam suggested watching the sunset from a rooftop bar. "Adam is a sucker for sunsets, so I thought nothing of it," says Stephanie. "When we got up to the rooftop, I turned the corner and saw someone familiar playing the guitar—it was the first musician we saw on our first trip to Nashville, Jimmy Charles, playing for just us. As I walked in further, I saw rose petals, candles, and the most beautiful sunset setting over the city. It was the most magical day—and so worth the eight-year wait!" After planning a wedding for August 2020, the couple decided to postpone for a year to ease travel concerns for their friends and family. "And heck, we had waited so long, what was another year anyways?" says Stephanie. So on August 14, 2021, they (finally) said "I do" in front of 230 guests at Greengate Ranch in San Luis Obispo, California. "We wanted our wedding to be timeless, relaxed, and sprinkled with design elements that tied in the rustic elegance of the venue," says the bride. "We wanted our guests to feel as comfortable at our wedding as they do in our home, which definitely played into the décor." Lovelyfest created an outdoor celebration—followed by dancing in the barn—with long farm tables, linen and velvet tablecloths, cheerful yellow centerpieces, and warm olive and wood tones. Personal touches—like the couple's custom puppy illustration beer cans, Nashville candy favors, and a yellow-and-olive palette that subtly referenced their alma mater's signature colors—helped them make the day their own. But the best part, says Stephanie, was "saying 'I do' in front of all of our friends and family. The pandemic, though tragic, made us realize how truly lucky we are to have such an outpouring of love and support. To be surrounded and celebrated by our dearest friends and family was something we will cherish forever." 01 of 22 Fresh and Floral Jen Rodriguez Stephanie and Adam customized an invitation design from Minted, incorporating their green-and-yellow color palette. "We chose the Whispering Leaves template because it reminded us of one of the beautiful trees on property at Greengate Ranch," says Stephanie. "The leaves were carried over to the RSVP and details cards that were included in the suite. We also added pops of gold through the gold foil lettering that was used on the calligraphy style headers." Their planners created an oval-shaped design with their initials in the center that the couple used as inspiration for escort cards, signage, and place cards. 02 of 22 Lovely in Lace Jen Rodriguez Stephanie's lace Studio Levana wedding dress featured scallop detailing at the neckline, a flowing silhouette, and draped sleeves. "I instantly fell in love with it—from the off-the-shoulder sleeves to the scalloped hem and all-over lace, I was in awe by the uniqueness of it all," says Stephanie. "When I stepped into it, I just knew this was the one. Not only did it fit the aesthetic of the venue, but it felt like me." She added Sara Gabriel hairpins, Badgley Mischka block heels, and diamond hoop earrings—a gift from her parents. 03 of 22 Flower Girls Jen Rodriguez The bride chose floor-length olive gowns from Amsale, but encouraged her bridesmaids to select their own neckline and shape. "It was really important to me that each of the girls got to choose their own style so that they felt their absolute best," says Stephanie. The women carried garden-inspired bouquets with lemon-colored roses, cream-colored butterfly ranunculus, white tulips, and Italian eucalyptus from Idlewild Floral. 38 Looks That Prove Bridesmaids' Dresses Can Be Chic 04 of 22 Men in Black Jen Rodriguez Adam's three-piece black tuxedo from Samuelsohn included a peak lapel jacket and suspenders. "We wanted to go for the classic and timeless groom look," he says. (The groomsmen sourced their three-piece suits from The Black Tux.) Comfortable shoes for an evening on the dance floor and a Valentino fragrance were wedding-day musts, too. "We saw that it's a fun idea to each pick out our own fragrance to wear on the wedding day, so whenever we smell it again it reminds us of the special day," he says. 05 of 22 Sign Language Jen Rodriguez A sage green welcome sign, created by Lovelyfest, hung from a gold stand accented with pale yellow flowers, and included the couple's custom oval monogram. 06 of 22 Please Leave a Message Jen Rodriguez At the entrance to the ceremony, Stephanie and Adam set up an After the Tone audio guest book—a green rotary phone that allowed guests to leave a message of well-wishes for the couple. Unique Wedding Guest Book Ideas That Aren't Actually Books 07 of 22 A Dramatic DIY Jen Rodriguez The couple kept their ceremony décor understated, allowing the surroundings and a custom altar frame to take the focus. "The main feature of the ceremony was the altar that my father and grandfather built for us," says Stephanie. "We asked them to create a simple, statement piece that our team at Idlewild could enhance with an explosion of flowers. My dad has always been handy and has a great eye for décor and design, and my grandfather is an architect, so between the two of them, we knew it was going to be special. It was absolutely one of my favorite elements of the wedding." 08 of 22 Ready to Wed Jen Rodriguez Lush, rolling hills and blue skies created a scenic backdrop as Stephanie and her father entered the ceremony space to meet Adam. "Adam and I did not do a first look, but instead had our first look when I was walking down the aisle," says Stephanie. "I wasn't nervous at all! I was so excited to finally marry my best friend. He looked so handsome and I couldn't wait to get down that aisle." 09 of 22 At Long Last Jen Rodriguez A sparkling pond and the flower-covered altar framed Adam as he watched Stephanie approach. "I was overcome with surreal joy as I saw my beautiful wife-to-be turn the corner and walk down the aisle," he says. "She had to hide her dress from me for two years and to finally see her in it was something I will never forget. If you look in the pictures my eyes are swelling with pure happiness, joy and love." 10 of 22 Saying Their Vows Jen Rodriguez Stephanie and Adam asked the bride's uncle to officiate their ceremony—"so it was full of stories, laughter, and advice," says Stephanie. "We decided to write our own vows, but we won't be reading them to each other until our one-year wedding anniversary, so we had standard vows at our ceremony." The couple also put a little twist on tradition by standing on opposite sides from where their families were seated. "Typically, the bride's family sits on the left and the groom's family sits on the right, so Adam and I switched sides, so that our families would be able to see our faces," says Stephanie. "Plus, I got to be on my good side for photos!" 11 of 22 So in Love Jen Rodriguez The newlyweds left the altar as husband and wife to a recording of Beyonce's "Love on Top" for the recessional. "When Steph and I walked down the aisle after the ceremony, and realized the step we had just taken, [that] was my favorite part," says Adam. "We were officially husband and wife. Now we could sit back and relax and have the night of our lives surrounded with our friends and family." What Kind of Music Should You Play During Your Ceremony? 12 of 22 Puppy Love Jen Rodriguez The couple left their seven-month-old puppy, Nash, home for the weekend, but incorporated him into the event with custom artwork. "I enlisted the help of an artist from Etsy who created a cartoon character of him," says Stephanie. "From there, I worked with the team at Eliqs to create a personalized beer can with Nash on the front and the Nashville skyline behind him." 13 of 22 One-of-a-Kind Signs Jen Rodriguez The oval shape of the couple's monogram inspired cocktail signage blending wood, cane, and laser-cut script. 14 of 22 Lovely Lounge Jen Rodriguez Umbrellas shaded on-palette lounge vignettes, where guests sipped their cocktails and mingled post-ceremony 15 of 22 Arch Support Jen Rodriguez A curved seating chart display from Lovelyfest referenced the couple's postponed nuptials with an "At Last" header, and incorporated all of the day's aesthetic elements: the pale olive green and bright yellow color palette, wooden shelves, and arched signs listing the table assignments. Insanely Creative Escort Cards and Seating Displays 16 of 22 Dinner Al Fresco Jen Rodriguez The couple held their dinner reception outside the historic barn, combining natural wood tones, subtle texture, and understated white, yellow, and green centerpieces. Velvet tablecloths, linen runners, and two types of chairs—as well as overhead string lights—created a "dinner party in the garden" atmosphere. 17 of 22 Lemon Drop Jen Rodriguez Low centerpieces were designed in a variety of compotes and vases for a cohesive but unfussy feel. Custom table numbers tied into the rest of the day's signage with wood, metallic, and arched elements. 18 of 22 On the Menu Jen Rodriguez At the place settings, modern gold flatware sparkled next to matte stoneware plates. Napkins in white or olive green were wrapped with woven rings, while mustard-colored menus set off the birch wood place cards. Stephanie and Adam worked with Field to Table to design a menu based around the foods they serve at their own dinner parties, including prime rib, herb- and fennel-crusted salmon, pasta pomodoro, grilled vegetables, risotto, and Caesar salad. The Prettiest Place Settings from Real Celebrations 19 of 22 Their First Dance Jen Rodriguez As a nod to their shared love of country music—and their trips to Nashville—the couple chose Keith Urban's "Only You Can Love Me This Way" for their first dance. "On our first trip to Nashville, we saw Keith Urban in concert, so he always reminds us of our love for the city and our engagement!" says Stephanie. 20 of 22 Sweets Talk Jen Rodriguez A petite Funfetti cake from Just Baked was accented with coordinating florals and delicate horizontal and vertical lines to add texture. "We fully trusted Lovelyfest with the vision for the cake and it turned out better than we could have imagined!" says the bride. The couple also provided cones from a Haute Sugar Co. ice cream truck and bags of GooGoo Cluster candy. 21 of 22 So Happy Together Jen Rodriguez After postponing their wedding, the best part of the day for the couple was experiencing the laughter and joy of speeches, toasts, and time together with their loved ones. "One of my favorite parts was just the laughter, talking, dancing and seeing everyone we care about together in one place after such an anticipated day in our lives," says Adam. "The dance floor was an absolute rodeo and friends and family of all ages were letting loose. It was just the best time." 22 of 22 Sources Jen Rodriguez Photography, Jen RodriguezVenue, Greengate Ranch & VineyardWedding Planning and Event Design, Lovelyfest Event DesignCatering, Field to Table EventsFlowers, Idlewild FloralVideography, The Chromatic CollectiveStationery, MintedCake, Just Baked SLOMusic, Malik MikoRentals, All About Events; Avenue Twelve Rentals; La Tavola Fine LinenBride's gown, Studio LevanaBride's accessories, Sara Gabriel hairpiece; Badgley Mischka shoes; Nordstrom earringsHair, Nichole PotterMakeup, The Queens BeesBridesmaids' dresses, AmsaleGroom's attire, SamuelsohnMenswear, The Black TuxLighting, Bella Vista DesignsTransportation, Elegant Image LimousineBar service, Copper and CrystalFavors, GooGoo ClusterGuest book, After The ToneIce cream truck, Haute Sugar Co.Rings, S Curtis Fine Jewelry Was this page helpful?
