Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have officially confirmed the birth of their daughter, Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. While her middle moniker, Diana (an homage to the Duke of Sussex's beloved late mother), was a likely choice per the U.K.'s betting channel, Harry actually hinted at his fondness for her first name, Lilibet or "Lili" for short, nearly two years ago, People reports. When Meghan and Harry visited children and their parents in Birkenhead back in 2019 while they were pregnant with Archie, the group shared their own baby name suggestions for the duo. Harry took note of the name "Lily" and even asked one mother how she spelled it. Getty Images Now, two years later, the couple put their own spin on the name and tied it to someone close to both of their hearts. "Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA. She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home," an official statement from the couple read. "Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales." The proud parents shared their excitement over the arrival of their little one, who joins her big brother, two-year-old Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, with the world via a more personal announcement. "On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili," they said in a statement on their Archewell website. "She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we've felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family." Well-wishes from the royal family came pouring in after the announcement of Lili's birth. "The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been informed and are delighted with the news of the birth of a daughter for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex," a Buckingham Palace spokesperson shared in a statement. Princess Eugenie also shared a sweet note to the couple on her Instagram story: "Congratulations dear cousins. We couldn't be happier for you all," she wrote. As Meghan and Harry settle in with their baby girl at home, fans of the couple will likely see more messages from loved ones—and maybe even a photo of the little one in the near future.
