This Couple's Flower-Filled Wedding Was Inspired by a Chanel Runway Show

Terra-Cotta Sketches

Adam and Kirby worked with Southern Fried Paper to customize their invitation suite with shades of terra-cotta, rust, and taupe. Each card was printed on thick paper and held together with a vellum band printed with the couple's monogram in gold foil; handmade envelopes were sealed with an oval-shaped wax seal. The set also included a custom hand illustration inspired by the venue's architecture and the lattice design elements seen throughout the ceremony and reception. "We wanted it to look like an Old-World architectural sketch in a sepia tone to complement the color palette of the rest of the suite," Kirby says.

Bold and Bridal

A lover of over-the-top fashion, Kirby tried it all—bold colors, feathers, and capes—before landing on the "Maria Theresa" wedding dress from Vera Wang. The long-sleeved A-line gown, complete with nude-and-ivory tulle and hand-placed gold Chantilly lace on the bodice, paired prettily with her sequined Dior pumps.

Meaningful Gold Accessories

Her veil, also by Vera Wang, featured the same gilded lace that appeared on her gown's bodice. Speaking of gold: The day before the wedding, her bridesmaids gifted her a gold ring engraved with the letters S and H, the first initials of her late father and brother's names. "It was incredibly meaningful to be able to look down, see that ring, and know they were there," the bride reflects.

Asymmetrical Arrangement

The bride held an asymmetrical bouquet featuring taupe and terra-cotta blooms and rust-hued foliage. "I loved the movement Max Owens Design created within the arrangement, which looked amazing against my cream-colored gown," Kirby says.

Blush and Purple

After the day's color palette was established, Kirby created a style guide for her bridesmaids and her two bridesmen, which included attire options that would complement the event's design. Her female attendants wore gowns in varying shades of blush and purple, while the men wore rose tuxedo jackets. 'Maids held smaller bouquets that referenced Kirby's, featuring blooms like Distant Drum, Koko Loco, and cappuccino roses, chocolate cosmos, burgundy scabiosa, lisianthus, amaranthus, and butterfly ranunculus.

The Gentlemen

Adam put a twist on a traditional tuxedo by selecting a jacket in a deep, rich shade of plum from The Black Tux. His groomsmen wore modern navy tuxedos with black bow ties; all the gentlemen pinned boutonnières—featuring taupe lisianthus with clematis pods, bunny tail, berries, and foliage for texture—into their lapels.

The First Look

The couple shared their first look in a converted sunroom, which had once been a greenhouse. "It had some beautiful light at that time of day, so it was a no-brainer to see each other for the first time in that space," the bride shares. Kirby and Adam hadn't spoken since the previous day, so they were excited to see each other in their big-day attire—and ultimately laughed the whole way through the moment.

Into the Garden

Their service took place inside the venue's solarium, where a fireplace served as the focal point; custom trellises (built by the bride!) were placed on either side, creating a garden-inspired atmosphere. A chandelier hung above the 40-foot-long aisle lined with low arrangements of textural foliage. A lush statement piece was created for the mantel—rust-toned branches and flowers in shades of peach and blush punctuated the ledge.

Surrounded by Friends

A string quartet played throughout the ceremony; they strummed "In My Life" by the Beatles for the wedding party's processional and "Edelweiss"—from the Sound of Music—for the bride's debut. Kirby was accompanied down the aisle by one of her closest friends, Andrew, before taking Adam's hand. "After losing my father and brother years ago, I wanted to have someone to escort me who had a connection to both of them." Kirby explains.

The pair asked another close friend, Andy, to officiate the non-religious ceremony, during which they exchanged personal vows. "Sharing what we value most about one another and how we are going to nurture that as we grow old was incredibly meaningful," the bride says.

Lush Lounges

The couple made sure the string quartet was placed thoughtfully so they could continue to play during the cocktail hour that followed. Guests mingled—and got comfortable in both modern and antique lounge areas—and enjoyed passed appetizers, including mini lump crab cakes, chipotle deviled eggs, and goat cheese paired with grilled pear. Kirby and Adam had an open bar, and created two signature cocktails: the "Kiki Hustle" named after Kirby's nickname and a "Brick House" to play off the disco-themed party that took place post-dinner.

Pink Moment

In another sunny room, contemporary lounge vignettes, composed of bubblegum pink furniture and gilded coffee tables, blended seamlessly with the venue's stately crown molding and window treatments.

Grounded

The couple's reception took place outside underneath a sailcloth tent embellished with arches of foliage and draped fabrics.

Into the Tent

Kirby and Adam went with a European-inspired garden party complete with plenty of gilded touches. "Wendy Kay from Birds of a Feather Events worked hard to incorporate my love of all things gold without it looking tacky," Kirby says. A large bar was placed at the center; an oversized foliage arrangement stood sentry in the middle and popped against the blue panelling, which was also emblazoned with the duo's custom monogram.

More Trellis Touches

Another trellis display, also executed by Kirby, was placed at the tent's entrance; it held guests' escort cards.

Engraved Velvet

The brushed gold cards were backed by an engraved merlot velvet tag, which denoted each attendee's table number.

The Reception Setup

A mix of round and rectangular tables were set up underneath beaded chandeliers come dinner. The longer stations were topped with a gold lace overlay as a nod to Kirby's wedding dress. "Even though it was not part of the original design, it really completed the look—and I loved it so much," the bride says.

In the Round

The round table were covered in icy linens only—sans a lace overlay—which created texture throughout the tent.

Places, Please

Oversized, but low centerpieces, also by Max Owens Design, were arranged in gold bowls and filled with heirloom roses, taupe lisianthus, and amaryllis. Taper candles in varying heights and shades of blush—as well as tea candles in glass votives—were scattered throughout the tablescapes. Place settings included gold-rimmed plates, rust-colored linen napkins, and gold flatware with blue handles.

The oblong engraved velvet menus doubled as place cards and told of the elegant meal to come: Kirby and Adam served a duet entrée of pork tenderloin and seared salmon paired with asparagus, Boursin scalloped potatoes, and Cheddar Bay biscuits—a Red Lobster favorite that the chef recreated for the pair.

The Wedding Cake

The couple's six-tier confection—the top portion of which was hoisted up by on acrylic, creating a floating illusion—was embellished with flowers and featured an illustration of the venue. The dessert, crafted by Cakes by Shannon Star, included three flavors; red velvet with cookies and cream, chocolate with peanut butter, and almond with raspberry.

The Dancing

Kirby and Adam hired disco dancers from Encore Productions to kick off an evening of dancing with a Saturday Night Fever-inspired performance. Loved ones grooved to their live band, the Royal Dukes, and enjoyed visiting "Mildred's Photo Lounge," where the couple's planning team set up a photo shoot area with post-Oscars celebrity portraits in mind—complete with cardboard cutouts of the couple's beloved cat, Mildred. "We had the photographer pose people in a serious way, so it made the photos so funny," Kirby says. Their jazz trio played "Something Stupid Like I Love You" for their first dance.

Into the Night

The bride changed into a short Naeem Khan dress with gold beadwork, cap sleeves, and beaded fringe so she could dance the night away during the reception. And, at the end of the evening, the celebrants showered the newlyweds with streamers.

Although Kirby and Adam hadn't planned on an immediate honeymoon, they decided to take advantage of travel gift cards from their guests and took a spontaneous trip to Park City, Utah. "We stayed at a home right on the mountain and it was a perfect way to start our adventure together as a married couple," Kirby says. To couples that are currently planning their own weddings, Kirby says this: "Hire vendors who you trust and who get you! Wendy understood Adam and me as a couple and was able to always keep that at the forefront of the event. Having that trust in her—and in the creative team she assembled—was paramount to being able to enjoy the day."
