Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank Are Expected to Name Their Son After a Prominent Relative

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank gave the world an adorable first glimpse of their newborn yesterday, on Instagram. The pair can be seen holding their little one's hand with a blue heart-filled caption to confirm their son's gender. But there is one detail the public awaits: their baby's name. According to Hello!, these two aren't the only royals to take some time before making this announcement. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, along with Kate Middleton and Prince William, all waited a few days to share this key detail after their children's arrival.

United Kingdom bookmakers do think they already know the name of the royal couple's baby, however: They believe Princess Eugenie and Jack will name their son after her grandfather, Prince Philip. "We expected Princess Eugenie and Jack to be traditional, but in a shock move, royal punters are backing them to name their new bouncing baby boy after his great-grandfather," Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom told the news outlet. "Philip was 25/1 but is now 4/1 favourite having been slashed overnight."

The expert went on to add that one name that initially led the betting odds also changed recently: "Previous favourite Arthur has drifted to 5/1 to take its place alongside Godfrey—while there are a number of other male royals who he could be named after, including his great uncle Edward at 14/1, cousin William at 40/1, and grandfather Andrew at 66/1."

While we wait for confirmation from the Princess Eugenie and Jack, Buckingham Palace did provide a full report on the baby's arrival for the public, Marie Claire reports. "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie was safely delivered of a son today, 9th February 2021, at 0855hrs at The Portland Hospital. Jack Brooksbank was present," the statement read. It also revealed that the pair's little one weighed in at eight pounds and one ounce, and "Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."
