10 Modern Cat Trees for a Well-Designed Home
Let Kitty climb into one of these sleek furnishings, all of which can be multifunctional as a jungle gym, a lookout perch, a scratching post, or a lounging bed, depending on the design.
Cats enrich our lives with their presence. That said, whether affectionate or aloof, all cats need alone time. "Cats crave their own space and giving them a cat tree or condo that is all theirs offers them a comfortable retreat with a familiar feeling and scent," says Dr. Jesus Aramendi, senior veterinarian at Chewy. "Having cat trees deters them from scratching furniture and other surfaces around the house, which can put cat parents' minds more at ease."
Cat trees come in all shapes and sizes. When shopping for one, Dr. Aramendi recommends evaluating the textures, materials for safety, and the complexity. "Texture is important. Usually, cat trees are built with carpeted fabric, scratch pads, and ropes that stimulate their natural instincts," he says. "You want to make sure to always read the specifications about the materials used in the cat trees. Organic fibers free of dyes are preferred, but synthetic fibers can also be safe as long as they are non-toxic." Complexity refers to the levels and open spaces for a cat to explore. "Multi-level cat trees are ideal for active cats and encourage the explorer within them. It also helps them exercise and use their abilities to the maximum," says Dr. Aramendi. "Cat trees with several cubbies work well for families with multiple cats so they can all share the tree and find their own spot. Cat trees with surprises such as hiding spaces for treats, catnip, or hanging toys are an optimal way to stimulate your cats and avoid boredom."
Here, we browsed the market for exemplary furnishings per Dr. Aramendi's advice and found some cat trees that Kitty will love whether she uses it to play, exercise, or lounge and look out onto her domain.
