These Three Easy-to-Make Christmas Cupcakes Are Sure to Be the Hit of the Holidays
With just a handful of common ingredients it's easy to create a polar bear, reindeer, or Santa face (or all three) on top of favorite cupcakes this holiday season. This super fun and festive activity is sure to be a hit with the whole family.
Using a spatula, frost each of the cupcakes with the buttercream. Cut large marshmallows in half, then place one half onto the bottom half of the top of the frosted cupcake, sticky side up, to create the snout. Cut the remaining marshmallow halves in half again, lengthwise to create two, half-moon shaped ears. Insert into the frosting at the top of the frosted cupcake.
Sprinkle shredded coconut on top of the cupcake around the snout and the ears. Next, place a brown chocolate-coated candy on the snout to make the nose.
Cut mini marshmallows in half and place blue mini chocolate-coated candies onto the sticky cut side. Transfer to the cupcake, pressing into the coconut and frosting just below the ears to make the polar bear eyes.
Using a spatula, frost each of the cupcakes with chocolate frosting. Place chocolate-coated cookies or peppermint patties onto the bottom half of the top of the frosted cupcake to create the snout. Dab the red chocolate-coated candy into frosting and place it on the snout, frosting side down to make the nose. (A little frosting helps the nose stick to the cookie.)
Cut mini marshmallows in half and place brown mini chocolate-coated candies onto the sticky side of each half. Place in the frosting above the snout to make the reindeer eyes. Insert two broken pretzels into the top of the cupcake to create antlers.
To make Santa's beard, cut large marshmallows into four disks. Overlap one marshmallow disk, sticky side down, onto a second marshmallow disk. Place a third marshmallow disk, sticky side down below, overlapping the bottom center. Transfer the marshmallow beard to the cupcake, placing it sticky side down on what will be the bottom of the cupcake surface. Reserve the remaining marshmallow disk for later use.
Dab the red chocolate-coated candy into frosting and nestle it into the space just above the beard, frosting side down, to make the nose. (A little frosting helps the nose stick to the cupcake.). Cut 12 of the mini marshmallows in half and place brown mini chocolate-coated candies onto the sticky side of each. Place two "eyes" on each cupcake just above the nose.
Frost the top third of the cupcake with red frosting, piling up slightly at the top to create a bit of a peak for Santa's cap. Insert the remaining mini marshmallows into the red frosting on the top right of the cupcake to complete the red Santa hat. Cut remaining marshmallow disks into strips for eyebrows. Place one above each eye, just where the frosting begins.
Whether you make one or all three Christmas cupcake faces, they're sure to be a highlight of the holidays.
