After nearly two years since tying the knot at St. George's Chapel in Windsor, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are officially expecting their first child. According to People, Buckingham Palace confirmed the happy news, noting that the baby will arrive next year. "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr. Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in early 2021," the palace shared in a statement.

Princess Eugenie also took to Instagram to make her own announcement; she shared sweet images of the couple smiling and holding a pair of mini polar bear slippers. "Jack and I are so excited for early 2021," she wrote in the caption, alongside a baby emoji.

The royal duo originally met a decade ago during a skiing trip in Switzerland—and Princess Eugenie immediately felt connected to her future husband. She also, hilariously, had an opinion about his fashion sense. "I thought, 'What a silly hat!'" she said. "And I thought, 'Who's that?'" She added, "And then [looking at Jack], you came over and shook my hand and I was all butterflies and nervous."

The pair marked their engagement seven years later in Nicaragua. Princess Eugenie previously sharing in an interview on BBC's The One Show that, "the lake was so beautiful, it was like the light was just a special light that I'd never seen," she noted. "I actually said, 'This is an incredible moment.'" She added that the proposal was a joyful and tearful surprise—calling it "the perfect moment." The princess always knew she'd marry Jack, she added: "We couldn't be happier, because we knew it was going to end up this way."
