Prince Charles Has a Photo of Him Walking Meghan Markle Down the Aisle on Display in His Home
Clearly, the moment meant so much to the Prince of Wales.
As Prince Harry tied the knot to Meghan Markle back in May 2018, his father, Prince Charles, beamed with pride—not only for his happiness that the Duke of Sussex had found his partner in life, but also for the new daughter-in-law he gained from the union. The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Sussex are reportedly very close, reports the new tell-all book Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family ($18.59, amazon.com). The was obvious on the big day, when Prince Charles took over the roll of Meghan's own father and escorted her (partly) down the aisle. According to Finding Freedom, Prince Charles keeps a memento of this moment in his home, The Independent reports.
When the couple was in the process of planning their wedding at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle, Prince Harry asked his father if he could walk Meghan toward the altar on the big day, the royal previously told the BBC—but the future king "knew it was coming."
The Duke of Sussex continued, sharing: "He immediately said, 'Yes, of course, I'll do whatever Meghan needs and I'm here to support you.'" The support from Prince Charles likely meant the world to the couple, but the moment of walking Meghan down the aisle also holds a special place in his heart, too, as he has a "framed black-and-white photo of himself escorting his daughter-in-law at his Clarence House residence," the authors revealed.
Prince Charles has always had a special bond with Meghan because he loves her confidence and "takes enormous delight and pleasure" that she is married to his "beloved youngest son," an insider revealed in the tell-all book. "She's bright and she's self-aware, and I can see why they've struck up a very quick friendship," the source added.
