Editorial Guidelines Published on August 4, 2020 Share Tweet Pin Email While we're all for celebrating our founder every single day, yesterday was Martha's birthday, which was cause for bigger and better festivities. She celebrated at her Skylands home in Maine with her daughter Alexis, grandchildren Jude and Truman, and close friends photographer Douglas Friedman and executive vice president and executive design director for the Martha Stewart brand, Kevin Sharkey. Martha kicked off the festivities over the weekend by playing tennis with Kevin and Douglas, who she called "rusty but enthusiastic," boating through Seal Harbor, Maine, and eating blueberry pie and drinking coffee at Lobster Butter Laboratory. The Best Throwback Photos of Martha Stewart Her birthday started out with homemade Donn's waffles for breakfast, a recipe developed by her dear friend Donn Chappellet. "My favorite for breakfast. With or without Maine wild blueberries they are light, crunchy, tender and delicious with butter and Maine maple syrup," Martha wrote on Instagram. For lunch, Chef Pierre Schaedelin of PS Tailored Events prepared salad niçoise using fresh produce from Martha's garden for lunch. The salad featured sliced hard-boiled eggs, tuna, olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, and green beans and wax beans atop crisp lettuce. Of course, it's not a birthday without cake! Alexis baked her a refreshing orange creamsicle ice cream cake, perfect for an August fête. "So fantastic! We all ate big pieces!!!!!" said Martha on Instagram. She continued by thanking everyone for "beautiful best wishes." Martha also shared a photo of several presents wrapped and placed on her patio, along with a large hand-painted sign created by her granddaughter Jude that read "Happy B-Day Martha." "What a lovely intimate and delicious gathering," wrote Martha in an Instagram caption. "Thank you Jude for a most beautiful after party! And to @scottkoniecko for delicious oysters. And @pstailoredevents for cooking such a delicious meal and to Alexis for the orange creamsicle cake. So so good!!!!!!!@russanddaughters. Caviar. @roecaviar." Perhaps the best present of all was that Martha reached one million followers on her personal Instagram account, a number that was surely boosted by her viral pool selfie that she posted two weeks ago.
