The wedding faced royal opposition.
Prince Ernst-August Jr. and Ekaterina Malysheva at wedding

Prince Ernst-August Jr. of Hanover is married, but not without some royal drama. The London-based investment banker faced one big objection-his own father, Prince Ernst-August, opposed the royal wedding.

Ernst-August Jr. wed fashion designer Ekaterina Malysheva, and their religious ceremony on Saturday was a widely-televised affair, reports People. Festivities began at Market Church and a luncheon was held later at Herrenhauser Gardens. The night then wrapped up with a Marienburg Castle reception. Prior to the weekend, the couple held a small civil service, which took place last Thursday. Notable details of the celebration included the newlyweds' horse-drawn exit. Malysheva wore an embroidered white wedding dress with pearl appliqués from designer Sandra Mansour. There was also a guest list studded with royals and aristocrats, but one very important person was missing from attendance.

In total, 600 guests watched the bride and groom get married, plus thousands of onlookers who tuned in or stood nearby. Those numbers, however, didn't include Ernst-August Sr., who skipped out on his son's wedding after publicly expressing opposition. The royal opposed on account of property disputes, shared People. Specifically, he was angry with his son's acquisition of some of the family's castles. "The decision was not easy for me because it concerns my son," he told German newspaper Handelsblatt. "But I am constrained to preserve the interests of the House of Hanover and the property, including cultural property, which has been its property for centuries."

Despite his disapproval, the wedding went on as planned, and the newlyweds still seemed to glow as they exited the altar. Plus, plenty of other family came to support the couple's marriage, including Ernst-August Jr.'s mother, Chantal Hochuli, and relatives from Monaco. While wedding objections are never fun, it looks like this celebration got on just fine. Best wishes to Ernst-August Jr. and Malysheva. As for the castles, we'll just say that there's plenty to go around.
