Rent the Runway Just Made Finding Wedding Fashion a Whole Lot Easier
They have your pre-wedding looks and your bridesmaids' dresses covered.
If you've ever attended a wedding, you've likely heard of-or even used!-Rent the Runway. The luxury fashion rental company has been responsible for many a well-dressed wedding guest since its inception in 2009. If you're new to the service, here's the gist: You rent a dress at a fraction of the full retail price, you wear it once, and you send it back.
Rent the Runway has added multiple perks to its base mission over the years-including accessory rentals and a ready-to-wear fashion subscription service-but the company just announced its most exciting one yet. Meet Rent the Runway Concierge, designed entirely for the bride-to-be. The highly-personalized service sets up brides with a stylist to pick out pre-wedding party looks, bridesmaid dresses, accessories, and more. We talked to Jennifer Hyman, Rent the Runway's Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, and got an inside look at the service that's sure to revolutionize modern weddings-and make them a lot more affordable.
The idea for the service was born out of a personal experience.
"While planning my own wedding last summer, I saw the lack of services focusing on what to wear to the many events leading up to the big day," said Hyman. She also understood the demands (and limitations!) of the busy bride. "The service will save everyone time and money-nobody has to buy another dress they will only wear once ever again!" she said, adding that brides have been using Rent the Runways existing services long before this on-call Concierge was developed. "This was a natural step for us to offer a highly-personalized, full-service experience to make dressing for their wedding easier and more fun," she explained. "We wanted to create a program that was tailored to them and their unique needs."
Brides can rent everything from engagement party to rehearsal dinner dresses, "fittings" included.
It all depends on the package you choose. Whether you need looks for just two pre-wedding celebrations (this package starts at $200) or are going all-out with five ($400), there's an option for you. You can even rent additional looks for just $80 per dress, so those attending extra events can get in on the fun. Best of all, each style comes with one back-up size and one back-up style, just in case. "This is available to both brides and bridesmaids," Hyman clarified. "Bridesmaids in the same city can also coordinate a 'fit party' where RTR sends all the looks for the bridal party to the same location."
The Concierge virtually guarantees that your styles will arrive on time.
"The RTR Wedding Concierge personally manages the order from start to finish," explained Hyman. "We monitor it all, from packing to shipping to delivery." Returning your styles is just as easy. On the final day of your (four- or eight-day) rental period, simply ship everything back the way it came-everything you need will be provided to you.
The perks are pretty major.
In addition to receiving a complimentary accessory for each of her and her bridesmaids' looks, brides who choose the service can spread the wealth. "The groom receives a special discount from Black Tux for his own tuxedo, as well as his groomsmen's," explained Hyman, stating that Concierge also includes discounts to Zola, Oasis, and Minted. All registered brides will also receive a promo code for their guests, giving them 20% off rentals on your wedding weekend. It gets better. "If a bride has 15 or more guests use her discount code, Rent the Runway will provide her with a free month of Rent the Runway Unlimited, our premier subscription service," said Hyman.
