So many men and women talk about simply knowing their partner was "the one," but there has to be more to it than just a sudden feeling that you're with the person you're destined to end up with. That's why we asked real brides to think back to the exact moment they knew they had found "the one," and their stories are seriously sweet.
When they hugged for the first time after months spent writing letters.
Recent bride Katie B. says she and her now husband were set up by mutual friends while he was deployed in Afghanistan. That meant that, for the six months they "knew" each other, they never communicated face-to-face. "After months of letters, phone calls, and sometimes video chats, we finally met each other in person at his Army unit's coming home ceremony," she remembers. "It was very emotional and when we hugged for the first time, I just knew I was hugging my future husband."
The very first week.
Bride Ashley B. says she knew her husband Matthew was "the one" very early on in their relationship. In fact, she says she felt it the very first week. "It sounds crazy, but the attraction was there the moment I saw him and I remember thinking it was too good to be true. It wasn't!" she remembers. But what sealed the deal was that they discussed the big things-including their faith and hopes for the future-very early on. "After hearing his heart and seeing the man he was and who he was becoming, I knew he was the one. We were married after 15 months and I could imagine living life without him."
When she realized he was her best friend.
For recent bride Lara K., the realization that her then-boyfriend was "the one" came after she understood that they had evolved into best friends. "We agreed on almost everything. We even would pick the same Netflix movies on date night. He really became my best friend. I could talk to him about anything, and he would always give me honest and real advice," she remembers. "It sounds cheesy, but there's nothing like living day-to-day life with your best friend."
After he did something especially thoughtful before time spent apart.
Jessica T. was dropping her now-husband off at the airport before a family vacation when he surprised her with a stack of letters to hold her over while he was gone. "Each letter was post-dated, so I could only read one per day until I got back from my trip," she says. "It was sweet, and I knew he put a lot of thought into it. I knew then that he was the one."
