Blemish-Busting Treatments That Won't Leave You with Dry Skin on Your Wedding Day
Move over benzoyl peroxide, there's a new generation of skin solutions in town.
It seems like we always have to choose between blemish-free or dry skin. The products used to prevent blemishes often make skin flaky, like the effective but harsh benzoyl peroxide, which is detrimental to a moisturized complexion. And once you get to age where you're also trying to stave off those first wrinkles, drying blemish treatments seem even less enticing. Luckily, there are plenty of new formulas and ingredients that treat them in a gentle, effective way.
Don't believe us? We know it sounds too good to be true, but we found six skin-clearing products that won't strip your face of hydration yet still work really well. Whether you need to refine pores or bust a deep, painful cystic pimple, know that there's a product here for you. Even better, these blemish treatments are all available in a wide array of price points, so you can find a product that works for your complexion and your wallet.
If you're ready to put your best face forward on your wedding day, then read on for six of our favorite skin-clearing products.
We know several editors who have tried this product—ourselves included—and everyone has raved about it. It's quite the multitasker: It contains 1.5 percent salicylic acid to help refine and decongest pores. But won't salicylic acid dry out your skin, you ask? Not with this formula, which includes a bevy of calming ingredients like milk thistle, chamomile, and neroli. It also contains tea tree oil, which wards off the bacteria that promotes blemish growth. After several weeks of use, you might even notice post-inflammatory acne marks fading thanks to the licorice in it, which lightens red and brown spots.
Sunday Riley U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil, $80, sephora.com
This entire organic blemish-clearing line is awesome (there's also a cleanser, moisturizer, spot treatment, exfoliator, and mask), but if you can only buy one product, make it the serum. Made with lemon and apple acids, this product works as an exfoliator to even skin tone and texture, salicylic acid and willow bark will refine your pores and brightening vitamin C and a slew of antioxidants keep your skin looking youthful and healthy.
Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Serum, $29, juicebeauty.com
You can expect a matte, clear complexion courtesy of MyChelle's "NatureClear Complex," a blend of Yogurtene (a prebiotic that helps prevent the growth of acne bacteria), grape and lilac stem cells, and the anti-inflammatory Aloesin. It has a fresh, almost lemon-y scent that's entirely natural, and feels really light on the skin. It kept our faces shine-free for a majority of the day.
MyChelle Clear Skin Pore Refiner, $28, mychelle.com
To treat blemishes and add a wedding-day glow to your complexion in one fell swoop, use this one, which contains a myriad of potent antioxidants to reduce inflammation, prevent breakouts, and promote collagen production. We can just feel our skin getting healthier and prettier each time we wear it. (The luxe packaging and smell don't hurt, either.)
Derm Institute Anti-Oxidant Hydration Blemish Rescue, $120, diskincare.com
If you feel one of those big, under-the-skin blemishes coming on and don't have time to head to your dermatologist for a cortisone injection, put this on instead. When the pimple does reach the surface, the size will be much smaller than it could've been. It has been a lifesaver for us.
Renée Rouleau Anti Cyst Treatment, $45.50, reneerouleau.com
A variety of anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial essential oils like lavender, evening primrose, and lemon helps reduce the size of spots. It's a roll-on treatment, which makes it easy to reapply throughout the day, so you don't have to touch your face with your hands to rub it in. (PSA: Never, ever do that without washing your hands first—it's one way to guarantee a blemish!)
