WATCH: This NYC Pride Parade Proposal Will Make Your Day
New York City's annual Pride March was particularly busy and especially important this year, following the devastating shooting at Orlando's gay nightclub, Pulse. In turn, the parade was both tough and rewarding for the many law enforcement officers maintaining order, structure, and safety at the event.
One New York City Fire Department emergency medical technician made the most of the occasion, using the love- and support-filled venue to do something special.
With the help of family and friends, Julianna Arroyo got down on one knee for fellow-EMT and girlfriend Erika Marrero, popping the question in front of a crowd of parade-goers.
Utterly surprised and shaky-handed, Marrero accepted with a kiss and loving embrace.
"This parade is monumental for us because of the Orlando shooting," Arroyo shared on Facebook. "We wanted to walk in the parade in honor of the 49 victims. At the same time, I wanted to give Erika something positive to remember from the parade."
The FDNY posted the proposal on their Facebook page, where you can share your best wishes with the happy couple. Public response has been thoroughly heartwarming, proving the power of love and the joy in celebrating all couples.
