Fruit Decorations and Favors
Fruit and Flower Centerpiece
This generous centerpiece uses a footed compote to provide height and let the fruit cascade. Since the arrangement is the table's star, the linens and place settings are simple; the tablecloth, a double-faced peach linen, picks up the color of the fruit and blooms.
Baskets brimming with fruit imbue a reception with rustic charm. We filled Nantucket baskets in various sizes with warm-toned fruits: pears, apricots, and two kinds of apples. Small baskets laden with blond cherries are arranged at place settings for guests to take home; tiny bows are a graceful touch.
Lemons and grapefruits tied in yellow taffeta ribbons and piled into a glass compote make a bright, casual arrangement. The bows are secured by pins, and sheer yellow organdy drapes from the bowl. A coordinating menu card is trimmed with taffeta ribbon.
Ripe apricots become place cards at a summer wedding or shower.
Berry Basket Favors
Send wedding guests home with fresh strawberries and scones to enjoy the morning after. Wrap scones in cellophane, and line a wooden berry basket with parchment paper. Tie on a note stamped with a strawberry design.
Caramel apples are a treat for both kids and adults. Packaged in cellophane, guests will be thrilled to take these delectable treats home with them.
Fruit Wrapped in Tissue
Wrap seasonal fruit in tissue for a sweet (and healthful) gift for guests. Have an office-supply store make a rubber stamp with your names, wedding date, and a drawing or clip-art illustration.
Frozen Fruit Vodka
A bottle of icy vodka makes a dramatic bar decoration when it's encased in a frozen layer of colorful flowers and fruit.
Fruit-Filled Cookie Bags
These containers were made to look like humble brown-paper bags, but that's where the resemblance ends. Sweet and crunchy, they can hold fruit or candy and make a great display on a dessert buffet or as a take-home favor.
