Prince Harry Chose Meghan Markle's Wedding Bouquet as an Ode to Princess Diana
The groom couldn't get married without involving his beloved mom.
Prince Harry has always been vocal about how much he loves and misses his mother, and he must feel her loss even more profoundly on his wedding day. That's why the groom did all he could to incorporate Princess Diana's memory into this celebratory occasion, starting with a small gift to his now-wife, Meghan Markle.
According to a Kensington Palace statement, Prince Harry chose several flowers (from the couple's personal garden at Kensington Palace!) that were used in Meghan's bridal bouquet. Among them? Forget-me-nots-Princess Diana's favorite bloom. "The spring blooms include Forget-Me-Nots which were Diana, Princess of Wales' favourite flower. The couple specifically chose them to be included in Ms. Markle's bouquet to honour the memory of the late Princess on this special day," the statement read.
That wasn't the only effort the groom made to make Diana's presence known. Circulating reports say that Harry actually left a seat open from his dear mom during the ceremony. The vacant seat, which was three over from his grandfather Prince Philip, was the only available seat in rows and rows of filled pews. Though we can't confirm this for sure, it does seem as if this particular vacancy was intentional.
Kensington Palace reinforced Harry's own efforts. Before the wedding, the Royal Family revealed that members of the Spencer family would be invited to and included on the big day. And that absolutely came to pass. Diana's sister, Lady Jane Fellowes performed one of the ceremony readings. "Set me as a seal upon your heart," she read aloud to the church. "For love is strong as death."
