See if the A-list duo you love most attended one of fashion's biggest events of the year.

Believe it or not, the Met Gala wasn't always fashion's (and, therefore, the celebrity sphere's) biggest night out—nor was it always held on the first Monday in May. The fundraiser has, however, always been operated by and taken place at New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art. It's main purpose? To benefit the venue's Costume Institute, which boasts over 33,000 pieces of historical regalia from all over the globe. But we're just as interested in the Met Gala's unofficial secondary purpose: It's a massive celebrity event, one that draws stars from all walks of fame. These stars often come in twos; a myriad of celebrity couples bring their high-profile counterparts along, dressed to the (literal) nines.
Discovering which of our favorite pairs show up for the Meta Gala is only half the fun. Seeing what they wear—these duos often coordinate their ensembles per the fundraiser's yearly theme—is often the best part of the celebration. This year, the stars truly delivered. These twosomes tapped into the evening's over-the-top aesthetic as a nod to the Costume Institute's latest exhibit, "Camp: Notes on Fashion." In art, camp refers to the exaggerated and the outlandish—something these A-listers absolutely nailed. Though we'll leave it to you to name the best-dressed couple of the night, we were particularly impressed by the interpretations of couples like Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez, Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian, and Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter.
There's plenty more fashion (and cute celebrity couple moments!) where that came from. Ahead, you'll find the best-dressed duos on the 2019 Meta Gala red carpet. We're not sure what's better: Finally getting a glimpse of our most-loved pairs or watching them debut their incredible complementary garments (which are works of art, themselves!).

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas
Introducing the new Mr. and Mrs. Jonas! Less than one week off their surprise Las Vegas wedding, newly-minted married couple Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner flew back to New York City for fashion's biggest night out, which also marked their first public event as husband and wife. Turner wowed in Louis Vuitton for the occasion.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth
Married life looks good on Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth! This duo doesn't make many joint red-carpet appearances, which made their presence at the 2019 Met Gala that much more special. Another detail that made their walk down the pink carpet that much more exciting? That the duo wore coordinating Saint Laurent attire.

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian
Tennis champion and Serena Williams (one of this year's event co-chairs!) brightened up the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in a bright, voluminous yellow Versace gown, accented with 3D florals. Her best accessory? Her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, who donned a white tuxedo for the occasion.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter
Benedict Cumberbatch's wife Sophie Hunter was a vision in pink; her billowing gown popped against the actor's all-white suit, which he accessorized with vintage pieces, like a fedora, smoking loafers, and tasseled walking stick.

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra
Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra approached the Met Gala like they do married life—as a team. The newlyweds stepped out in complementary metallic looks. Jonas took a more subtle approach, though; his sparkly shoes and neck tie weren't nearly as statement-making as his wife's out-of-this-world Dior Haute Couture look, which involved an intricate headpiece.

Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade were all smiles in matching hooded ensembles. We loved how the basketball player's suit sleeves referenced the pattern on his wife's dress!

Camila Mendes and Charles Melton
Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart weren't the only Riverdale couple on the Met's steps: Camila Mendes and Charles Melton, who also met and fell in love on the show (the actress later confirmed their relationship in October 2018), made an appearance, too. As for the couple's fashion choices? We'd argue that Melton was the best-dressed man of the evening—his sparkly navy suit was particularly eye-catching. Her yellow Prabal Gurung gown was pretty incredible, too.

Kylie Jenner redefined monochrome on the 2019 Met Gala red carpet. Her head-to-toe purple ensemble from Versace—complete with a lavender wig and feathered gown—brought a pop of pastel to the party. Her longtime boyfriend, Travis Scott, wore a military-inspired ensemble.

Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West
Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West are Met Gala veterans; year after year, the fashion-forward couple makes a splash (this year, Kardashian really did make a splash with a wet look from Mugler) on the museum's steps. As for West? He kept his ensemble relatively low key, ensuring the spotlight remained completely on his wife.

Bee Shaffer and Francesco Carrozzini
Newlyweds Bee Shaffer and Francesco Carrozzini—who tied the knot in Mastic, New York, in July 2018—were one of the first couples to hit the 2019 Met Gala red carpet. Shaffer kicked off the evening of larger-than-life fashion in a sleek black Alexander McQueen pantsuit, accented with a voluminous red rosette.
