When Will Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Reveal Their Baby's Name?
With Meghan Markle's expected due date right around the corner, everyone is not only wondering about the future royal's gender, but also when they'll know the baby's name. According to People, it's likely to be announced a few days after the birth, but given the timeline of royal arrivals in the past, it's hard to know for sure.
What we do know, however, is that the the baby's gender is likely to be confirmed along with the birth announcement, the outlet said. As for the Baby Sussex's name, we may just have to wait. If Markle and Prince Harry choose to follow in the footsteps of Prince William and Kate Middleton, we could know the baby's name two to four days after the birth. Although this may seem like a long time, this is actually fairly quick by royal standards-Prince William's name wasn't announced for an entire week and Prince Charles' name wasn't disclosed for a whole month.
For now, people are occupying the time with betting on possible monikers through the U.K. bookies company, Ladbrokes. As for the most popular names in the running? In first place, with 8/1 odds, is Victoria. In second is Diana, a nod to Prince Harry's late mother. For boys' names it's a three-way tie between Albert, Arthur, and Phillip. Alice, Alfred, Charles (for the baby's grandfather!), Elizabeth (after the Queen, of course), James, Mary, Alexander, and Alexandria are just a few of the other names in the running.
Although, Markle and Prince Harry have remained relatively quiet about the names they're considering, they've let a few possibilities slip. In January, during a visit to Birkenhead, a fan named Megan Dudley offered up a name for the future royal. "I asked her whether she would call her baby Amy if she has a girl," the fan told reporters, "and she said, 'That's a really pretty name, I like it. We'll have to think about it.'" But, that's certainly not the only suggestion the royal couple has been given. In fact, in October, a young fan tried to coax a name out of the Duchess, but she didn't budge. "We've been given a long list of names from everyone," she told him, "we're going to sit down and have a look at them."
