Royal Wedding 2018: The Famous Guests
Did your favorite celebrities make Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding guest list?
Other than the bride's wedding dress, the celebrity-packed guest list for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's May 19th wedding was one of the most highly anticipated details of the day. Luckily, it didn't disappoint. After all, when a royal with ubiquitous celebrity status and a popular actress marry, plenty of prestigious friends show up, including Serena Williams, George and Amal Clooney, and Victoria and David Beckham. These lucky A-listers didn't arrive at Windsor Castle on name or clout alone, though. They received an invitation to the event for a reason, whether it be their longstanding relationship to the Crown or their personal friendships with the bride or groom.
The VIP guest list may have been selective, but it was by no means short. Here, we've rounded up all of the celebrity guests who turned out to help the royal couple properly celebrate their union. Oprah Winfrey was among the first guests to arrive, followed by actor Idris Elba and his fiancée Sabrina Dhowre. Of course, the Middleton family joined in on the fun, too. Pippa Middleton and her new husband, James Matthews, along with her brother, James Middleton, arrived ahead of the nuptials.
While the royal wedding certainly didn't need high-profile attendees to become one the biggest celebrity moments of the year, these famous icons definitely kicked the event up a notch (especially in the fashion department!). George Clooney and Amal Clooney
Amal Clooney is a close friend of Meghan Markle (they've likely bonded on their joint passion for human rights). The lawyer and her husband are reportedly attending all parts of the royal wedding—the ceremony, luncheon, and evening reception—which indicates that they're part of the royal couple's inner circle. Amal stunned in a yellow dress while George wore light gray for the occasion.
Elton John and David Furnish
Elton John might have been coy about attending the royal wedding—at one point he said he hadn't received an invite—but we all knew he, a good friend of the late Princess Diana, and his husband, David Furnish, wouldn't miss it. Months ago, when asked about Harry's choice of bride, the legendary performer acknowledged that he'd never seen him happier. Of course he'd be there to watch that happiness come to fruition!
Pippa Middleton and James Matthews
One of the most anticipated guests of the hour, Pippa Middleton, stepped out to witness the nuptials with her own new husband, James Matthews. Duchess Kate's sister donned a floral dress and fascinator for the occasion. The couple is reportedly expecting their first child.
Patrick J. Adams and Troian Bellisario
Adams played Meghan's onscreen partner on Suits for little over half a decade and was thrilled to attend his friend's wedding on behalf of the USA show's cast. He was accompanied by his wife, Pretty Little Liars actress Troian Bellisario.
James Corden and Julia Carey
British comedian James Corden arrived at the royal wedding with Julia Carey, his wife of five years. Like Prince William and Kate Middleton, the couple recently welcomed their third child (a girl!).
David Beckham and Victoria Beckham
The famous soccer player and former Spice Girl are royal wedding regulars. In addition to attending Harry and Meghan's nuptials, they were also in the pews at Westminster Abbey to watch Prince William marry Kate Middleton in 2011.
Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian
The professional tennis player and former Suits actress allegedly met at a celebrity charity event in 2014 and have remained close (they text!) ever since. Considering the fact that Meghan and Harry's nuptials fell over the same weekend as the 2018 French Open, her first major competition post-baby, their friendship is clearly high on Williams' list of priorities. She brought her new husband, Alexis Ohanian, along.
Oprah glowed in blush at the royal wedding. She accessorized with a floral hat, a small and springtime-ready handbag, and some classy sunglasses.
Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre
The British actor and his fiancée, Sabrina Dhowre, stepped out for the ceremony dressed to the nines. Dhowre chose a royal-inspired look, complete with a jacket and coordinating hat.
Kate Middleton and Prince William
Less than one month after becoming parents of three—their youngest son, Prince Louis, was born at the end of April—Prince William and Kate Middleton stepped out to watch Harry and Meghan tie the knot. The wedding also marked the Duchess of Cambridge's first public outing post-baby. She re-wore a favorite Alexander McQueen dress of hers with a Philip Treacy hat.
James Blunt and Sofia Wellesley
James Blunt, a friend of Prince Harry's, brought his wife, Sofia Wellesley, along for the event. She stunned in a floral embroidered dress, perfect for the springtime wedding.
Prince Harry's ex-girlfriend, Chelsy Davy, arrived at the royal wedding beaming. She and the groom dated on and off since 2004 and split on good terms shortly after Prince William and Kate Middleton's nuptials.
The bride's Suits co-star, Gina Torres, was a springtime vision in a red midi dress for the occasion.
Priyanka Chopra and Abigail Spencer
Priyanka Chopra was virtually the only star to confirm her royal wedding attendance ahead of the big day. (She also revealed that Meghan cried when she chose her wedding dress!). The Quantico actress attended the royal couple's ceremony with Abigail Spencer, one of the bride's Suits co-stars.
Harry's cousin Princess Eugenie got a preview of her own upcoming wedding courtesy of today's ceremony. She and her fiancé, Jack Brooksbank (who was absent during the morning celebration), are set to tie the knot at St. George's Castle in October.
Princess Beatrice (another royal cousin!) went for a more subdued headpiece (by Stephen Jones) than she normally wears—this one was very modern. It matched her teal Roksanda Viola dress perfectly.
Doria Ragland, Prince Charles, and Camilla Parker Bowles
Prince Charles, accompanied by wife Camilla Parker Bowles (in Anna Valentine and Philip Treacy), was dapper in full regalia as he watched his youngest son become a married man. Charles has been vocal about his excitement for the bride and groom's union, describing the wedding as a "very special day for everybody," just last week. Here, the couple stood alongside Markle's mother, Doria Ragland (in Oscar de la Renta and Stephen Jones).
Queen Elizabeth II
It wouldn't be a royal wedding with the Queen of England—literally. Just a few short months after granting her grandson and Meghan Markle permission to wed, proud grandmother Elizabeth II (in a green Stuart Parvin dress and Angela Kelly hat!) was all smiles on the special day.
James Middleton joined his two sisters, Pippa and Kate, to represent their family.
Carole Middleton and Michael Middleton
Duchess Kate's family was rounded out with its matriarch and patriarch, parents Carole and Michael Middleton.
Chelsy Davy wasn't the only ex of Harry's to make an appearance. Cressida Bonas, who he dated for two years, was there too.
Tom Hardy and Charlotte Riley
Tom Hardy was quite the unexpected royal wedding guest. Even more unexpected was his shaved head. There's a reason for his new 'do, though. He's currently filming the movie Fonzo and is playing Al Capone. The Dunkirk actor was accompanied by his wife, Charlotte Riley (who once played Kate Middleton in a movie!).
Gabriel Macht and Jacinda Barrett
Gabriel Macht of Suits brought his wife Jacinda Barrett as his plus-one to support his former castmate.
Suits actor Rick Hoffman waved to the cameras. He entered the ceremony with a few other members of the USA network show's cast, including Patrick J. Adams.
