Priyanka Chopra's Ralph Lauren Wedding Dress Took 1,826 Hours to Make—See the Photo!
The bride and her husband, Nick Jonas, also opened up about their emotional ceremonies.
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas tied the knot over the weekend with not one, but two elaborate wedding ceremonies: one that paid homage to Jonas' Christian heritage, and another that honored Chopra's Indian culture. For the former, the bride wore a long-sleeved Ralph Lauren wedding dress with a high collar and long illusion sleeves, which she just debuted on Instagram with a photo by Jose Villa. The garment was incredibly intricate-something that was reflected in the time it took to actually create the gown.
In an exclusive interview with People, Chopra revealed that her hand-beaded, hand-embroidered wedding dress, which featured floral and scroll motifs, lace appliqués, scalloped sleeves, and a 75-foot-long veil, took a whopping 1,826 hours to bring to life. The actress was in awe of the dress long before she saw the final version. "When we went in for the sketch presentation, they created exactly what I envisioned for myself on my wedding day," she told the outlet.
For Chopra, Ralph Lauren was an obvious choice-both she and Jonas wore the label when they made their relationship debut at the 2017 Met Gala. "They're so much a part of our love story for obvious reasons," she continued. The gown was also remarkably special to Lauren. "When Ralph Lauren approached us, I learned that Ralph has only designed three wedding dresses in 50 years-one for his daughter, his daughter in law, and his niece," added the bride. "I was blown away."
Chopra's bespoke creation was clearly a labor of love. To add a meaningful touch, the Ralph Lauren team hand-stitched eight words and phrases into the gown, including Jonas' full name, the wedding date, and the names of Chopra's parents. A piece of her new mother-in-law's wedding dress was also sewn in. According to Chopra's stylist, Mimi Cuttrell, these touches helped the gown reflect its wearer. "Priyanka was fully the inspiration behind this dress. Everything about it is true to who she is-a classic, elegant, beautiful, sophisticated woman."
The Western wedding ceremony that followed, however, was even more special than the bride's dress. "It was all tears. All tears," Chopra recalled, in another part of the interview. "I could not hold it in. I think I was nervous and scared. But as soon as the curtains opened, and I saw his face it was just like everything settled and I knew I was making the best decision of my life."
Her husband had the same, intense reaction to seeing his bride for the first time. "The emotions were running high during the ceremonies, I think especially during the Western wedding for me," he said. "You know you think your whole life about that moment. Honestly, I could not have imagined it would be as perfect as it was. It was highly emotional."
