Kit Harington Credits His Happy Marriage to "Game of Thrones"
He met his wife, actress Rose Leslie, on the show.
Game of Thrones has been a major success, most recently evidenced by its multiple wins at the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards, including for Outstanding Drama Series. In turn, its cast has reached impressive fame. But for one actor, Kit Harington, the stardom doesn't compare to another big thing the series gave him: His wife, Rose Leslie.
According to Us Weekly, the newlywed called his role in Game of Thrones life-changing for the sweetest reason. At the 2018 Emmys, he told the press, "I met my wife in this show, so in that way it gave me my future family, and my life from here on in. That's the main thing it did for me," he explained, adding that "it's changed my life completely."
The British actor met Leslie when their characters (Jon Snow and Ygritte) played love interests on the drama series. After that, an actual romance blossomed-in 2016, Harington told Us Weekly it was "easy to fall in love" in real life. It wasn't as easy to propose, though. He admitted that he botched his plan. Nonetheless, the couple got engaged in 2017 and announced the news by publishing it in the "Forthcoming Marriages" section of The London Times.
This summer, Harington and Leslie tied the knot in Kirkton of Rayne Church in Aberdeen, Scotland and followed the ceremony with a party at the bride's family estate. She wore a beautiful lace Elie Saab wedding dress (that cost about $20,000!) down the aisle, plus a simple flower crown and long veil for the festivities.
