Kate Bosworth's Wedding Weekend Fashion Details
Four Days of Fabulous Fashion
Most brides-to-be search for a single gown that will channel their style, personality, and aesthetic. But Kate Bosworth was on the hunt for four. The actress wed director Michael Polish in August 2013 in the mountains of Montana, and the couple hosted 90 guests for a wedding weekend at The Ranch at Rock Creek. From the Mexican fiesta welcome party to the outdoor ceremony, Bosworth looked stunning. Here, she shares her style strategy and her thoughts on each look.
One of a Kind
Kate wore a silk Proenza Schouler dress, which the designers created just for her, to the Mexican fiesta kick-off party. "I love Jack and Lazaro as people and I adore their work. They very kindly custom made this dress for me, and I knew it would be perfect for the first night," she explains. "The pleats give the dress movement, the thin straps are sweet and delicate. I only saw one sketch and then the final design was hanging in my closet upon arrival to The Ranch at Rock Creek. They know me very well... what designs work on my frame. We did not have one fitting and the dress fit perfectly. I will be forever grateful for this gift and for their friendship."
Bosworth chose a vintage Chloe dress for the modern hoedown rehearsal dinner. "I have a close relationship with the brand and they allowed me to take a look through their archives," she says. "I was searching for a piece that felt ethereal... of another time. Days of Heaven
. The intricate work on this dress is remarkable. Layers upon layers of embroidery and lace. The tiny cape around my shoulders was the perfect touch for a Montana evening."
Good Luck Charm
Fashion details extended beyond the bride: The couple gave Michael's daughter, Jasper, a Tiffany & Co. horseshoe pendant, a fitting gift to remember a weekend at the ranch.
A Custom Capsule Collection
Bosworth intentionally wore shades of creams throughout the weekend and thought about her looks as a whole. "I did think about the wardrobe, mostly to reflect the environment and occasion," she adds. "I also wanted to acknowledge the escalation of each look becoming more bridal as the days went on."
The bride walked down the aisle with 16 feet of custom Oscar de la Renta gown trailing behind her, which exactly how she had envisoned the moment. "I wanted to feel like I had wrapped myself in Oscar's beautiful fabrics and stepped forward, the spool continuing to unravel as I moved," she explains. "This design was Oscar's magnificent interpretation of that sentiment. One of the greatest memories of my life is to have worked with Mr. de la Renta on my wedding gown. Simply, he is extraordinary."
A Family Affair
While Michael chose Brooks Brothers for his suit, the female members of the wedding party followed Kate's lead in Oscar de la Renta. Her mother wore a textured linen suit with leather macrame detail from the designer, while Jasper opted for a blush silke faille dress, and three-year-old flower girl Josephine (not pictured) fell in love with her white silk dress with Peter Pan collar. "From the moment she tried it on, she did not want to take it off," says Bosworth. "She felt like a fairy princess and wanted to ride a white horse wearing her dress."
After the ceremony, the bride changed into a second, slimmer gown from de la Renta. "It was embellished with fine crystals, pearls, and tulle. It was almost invisible, so it looked like the entire thing was made of very fine [details]. It was just so gorgeous. I was deeply in love with both of the dresses," Bosworth says.
Bosworth worked with hairstylist Mark Townsend to complete the look with an unconventional hair accessory: an estate diamond bracelet from Stephen Russell. "Once we agreed upon the wedding dress design, I knew the only adornment would be a piece complementing the veil," she adds. "To me, it resembles a delicate piece of Victorian lace."
