You need to say something more than, "Guess what? We're married!"

Heidi Klum and Tom Kaulitz did it at the Beverly Hills, California, courthouse. For Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin, it was New York City's courthouse. And plenty of non-celebrities do it every single day in every state of the union. We're talking, of course, about eloping, where you quietly get married in front of only one witness or a few close family members and friends. So, if you're going to elope, how do you tell everyone else you love that you've said I do?

Choose a printed announcement.

It's the classic way to go. An elopement announcement is similar-looking to a wedding invitation in looks but can include a wedding-day photo of the two of you if you'd like. Announcements can be printed on heavy card stock and should be mailed within 30 days of the wedding.

Decide who will issue it.

If you're following tradition, the good news would come from your parents. But if you'd rather you and your husband announce your newly-wedded coupledom, that's fine, too.

Choose a formal or friendly tone.

The announcement can be classically worded as in, "Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Nichols are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter, Jessica, to Gabriel James, son of Dr. and Mrs. Christopher James, on October 8, 2019, in Rochester, New York." The same information can easily be given a lighter tone: "We've got happy news to share! Our daughter Jessica married Gabriel James on October 8, 2019, in Rochester, New York!"

Offer details about any reception that's planned.

This is the time to tell all about the upcoming party: "Please join us in celebrating Jessica and Gabriel's marriage at a reception on December 7 from 8:00 p.m. to midnight at Clarion House, 122 East Houseman Street, Rochester, New York." As with any party, include a line asking to let you know if they can or cannot attend: "Please RSVP by November 23."

Consider posting it on social media.

This is certainly the easiest way to let all 2,000 of your Instagram followers know. But obviously leave out the part about the party!
