The 13 Best Dessert Crazes (Including the Macaronut!)
If you think the hype around these desserts is all talk, think again. Plus, they're the perfect alternative to the classic wedding cake.
On March 20th, otherwise known as Macaron Day, pastry chef Francois Payard will create the newest dessert trend you haven’t heard of yet: the Macaronut, a macaron, croissant and donut hybrid. In honor of this occasion, we've rounded up some of our favorite dessert crazes. (All of which make the perfect addition to any wedding dessert bar!)
Dominique Ansel's donut croissant hybrid is a thing dreams are made of. The flaky-ness of a croissant combined with the melt-in-your-mouth deep-fry of a donut makes for an incredible dessert.
Black Tap Milkshakes
These first came into being November of 2015 when a small craft burger and beer joint dreamed up these absolutely insanely decadent milkshakes. The cookie milkshake even comes with a full chipwich stuck on top.
The Cookie Shot
Another Dominique Ansel creation, the cookie shot is cookie in the shape of a shot class, coated with chocolate on the inside, and a shot of milk poured into the cookie. Drink the milk, munch on the cookie cup, there's no wrong way to eat this creative version of the classic milk and cookies dessert.
Puffle Ice Cream Cones
The puffle cone is based on the Hong Kong egg waffle, a popular street snack that is made with a sweetened egg-based batter. Not only are these cones extremely delicious, they're totally Instagram-worthy as well!
Donut Ice Cream Cones
This one is not so much a craze, but an NYC establishment that serves up the fluffiest, gooeyest (in a good way), most decadent cookies you will ever eat.
Momofuku Milk Bar Birthday Cake Truffles
Another classic NYC dessert, these birthday cake truffles are the perfect balance of cakey and fudgy, creating an amazing texture for you to sink your teeth into. Plus you can order these online and get them shipped anywhere in the country, you can experience the deliciousness that is Momofuku no matter your location.
Brioche Ice Cream Sandwich
A warm bioche bun filled with your choice of sorbet or gelato flavor is the ice cream sandwich we never knew we needed, and guaranteed to give you that warm fuzzy feeling inside.
An adaption of Taiwanese and Korean shaved ices, shaved cream or shaved snow is a lighter, fluffier version of ice cream, and is literally shaved pieces of frozen cream topped with anything from chocolate sauce and almonds, to mochi and fruity pebbles.
Ice Cream Rolls
This Thai-inspired dessert proves that it might be time to move over to Asia, and serves up ice cream using a cold plate (-10 degrees farenheit), cream, and the toppings of your choice. The cream is spread out on the cold plate, freezes and then gets rolled up into a super Instagramable and yummy dessert.
Cereal Milk Ice Cream
Another Godsend from Momofuku Milk Bar, this ice cream tastes exactly like that leftover milk you used to slurp up as a kid after eating your favorite sugary cereal. We don't know how they do it, but it's delicious, perfectly sweet, and tastes even better with cereal crunchies added on top.
