As we get closer to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding this May, many have been wondering if the celebration will break royal tradition-especially considering the bride's American background. According to one insider, the couple's event will be quite different from royal weddings of the past in at least one category: the wedding party.

An Us Weekly source told the outlet this week that "the day of the wedding itself will certainly hold a few unconventional surprises." "Don't expect a royal wedding by numbers," the insider added. "They want to involve their friends and family as much as much as possible throughout the day." What does this mean exactly? "I've heard that Meghan wants her mother to walk her down the aisle," the source said.

Us Weekly has also learned that Markle has already selected her maid of honor, though she hasn't revealed who will take on the important role. Some think it's her close friend, Jessica Mulroney, especially since Mulroney's daughter apparently has a role in the affair, alongside Prince George and Princess Charlotte. As for Markle's husband-to-be, he "has several close guy friends, but there's no way he would ask anyone but [Prince] William to take on the top job," someone previously told the outlet.

Another insider recently reiterated that the couple will throw an event that's uniquely their own. "Harry has never been one to follow instructions and both he and Meghan are extremely independent individuals," the source said. "I wouldn't imagine for one second that they plan to sit back and be told what to do."
