Justin Bieber and Hailey Balwin are finally opening up about their whirlwind relationship, which culminated in their September 2018 nuptials. The two sat down for a joint interview with Vogue to discuss how marriage has changed their bond-and to detail their unexpected road to matrimony.

The two first met back in 2009, after Baldwin attended the Today Show, where Bieber was performing. However, they didn't develop a friendship until a few years later, when Baldwin started attending services at Bieber's church. "One day Justin walked into Hillsong and was like, 'Hey, you got older,'" she said. "I was like, 'Yeah, what's up?' Over time he became my best guy friend. I was running around with him as his homie, but we weren't hanging out [romantically]." While the two had a brief relationship, they eventually parted ways only to reconnect again in June 2018. A month later, the pair was engaged.

In September 2018, the couple wed in a secret courthouse ceremony. In the interview, the two touched on the critics who said their marriage happend too fast or wasn't real. "We're coming from a really genuine place," she explained. "But we're two young people who are learning as we go. I'm not going to sit here and lie and say it's all a magical fantasy." She also admitted that the two work through hardships every day, and that they even attend couples therapy together.

Though they go through the ups and downs that come with any marriage, both Bieber and Baldwin said they're committed to making things work. "There's something beautiful about [marriage] anyway-about wanting to fight for something, commit to building with someone," she said. "We're really young, and that's a scary aspect. We're going to change a lot. But we're committed to growing together and supporting each other in those changes. That's how I look at it. At the end of the day, too, he's my best friend. I never get sick of him."
