Princess Eugenie's Wedding Cake Is the Ultimate Nod to Fall
We're particularly fond of the autumnal sugar work.
Though we knew that Princess Eugenie was planning a fall-themed wedding, complete with autumnal floral arrangements and an in-season color palette, we didn't have much information about her wedding cake. People reported on Wednesday that London-based confectioner Sophie Cabot would be responsible for the creation, noting that the five-tier dessert would be massive-and that the treat's smaller sugar details had been in progress since July.
Based on the wedding cake photos just released by Kensington Palace, "massive" is a bit of an understatement. Comprised of an octagonal base and four round tiers, the larger-than-life confection is the ultimate homage to the bride's overarching theme. Covered in sugar foliage, berries, and branches, Cabot's masterpiece also features the couple's monogram eight times (a calligraphed, intertwined "E" and "J" appears on every side of the base tier).
The many monograms aren't the royal wedding cake's only personal touch. Eugenie and Jack served up two of their favorite flavors-red velvet and chocolate cake-at their afternoon luncheon, which is currently underway at Windsor Castle. The flavor choice is almost as noteworthy as the artistic, autumnal detailing, since it is highly irregular for royal couples to serve anything but fruit cake (the royal flavor of choice!) on their wedding day.
According to Cabot, both Eugenie and Jack were heavily involved in the design process. "The couple were very relaxed, very comfortable. I got the feeling the cake was something they were very excited about," she told People reporters. "Not one cake is ever the same and this was extra because of the time of year and they wanted to keep it so seasonal-it was a real joy."
