Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Just Crossed This Major Wedding To-Do Off Their List
If this detail is any indication, it's going to be one sweet celebration.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have officially nailed down one of the most important parts of their wedding reception: the cake! According to a press release from Kensington Palace, the couple has chosen their cake baker and decided on a tasty confection.
"For their wedding cake Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle have chosen pastry chef Claire Ptak, owner of the London-based bakery @violetcakes," the statement read. "Prince Harry and Ms. Markle have asked Claire to create a lemon elderflower cake that will incorporate the bright [flavors] of spring. It will be covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers." Her dedication to using "seasonal and organic ingredients" is what earned her the honor.
Ptak has owned London's Violet Bakery for nearly a decade, but the confectioner originally hails from California-just like Meghan! The bride-to-be as been a fan of Ptak's work for some time, having interviewed her for her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig. "I can't tell you how delighted I am to be chosen to make Prince Harry and Ms. Markle's wedding cake," Ptak said in a statement, reported Entertainment Tonight. "Knowing that they really share the same values as I do about food provenance, sustainability, seasonality and most importantly flavor, makes this the most exciting event to be a part of."
The pastry chef shared last April that she began her career designing wedding cakes, but that she'd spent much of the recent past "turning them down." Since returning to them again, she's crafted gorgeous pastel-hued, flower-adorned cakes that any bride would love-her Instagram account actually features many cakes similar to the one Kensington Palace's statement described. "They are so fun to make (albeit stressful) and there is nothing like assembling them in situ and the wonderful reactions that you receive from onlookers," Patk wrote on Instagram.
