This Monogram DIY Project Helps You Show Off Your New Initials in Style
These pretty letters, brought to you by Martha Stewart Celebrations, look right at home at just about any wedding event.
Looking for a way to weave your new initials into your reception décor? Martha Stewart Celebrations, a collection of party supplies available exclusively at Michaels, has you covered. Show off your new last name with a festive DIY monogram that can be displayed on the guestbook table, candy buffet, or even as part of the photo booth. While these canvas letters look right at home on the big day, they'll work just as well at an engagement party or bridal shower-and can even double as a last-minute gift for both events, if you're looking for something flashy for the future Mr. and Mrs.
The best part? This craft couldn't be easier. All you'll need are two 12" canvas letters and "&," acrylic craft paint in shades "Wedding Cake" and "Gold," a basic brush set, stencil tape, a pencil, ruler, water basin, and paper towels. When you have all of your materials gathered, use the 1" flat brush to cover all of the canvas characters with "Wedding Cake" paint. You'll need to let the paint dry before using tape to mask off 1 ½" horizontal stripes across the front of all three letters. Pro tip: Use the pencil and ruler to make sure that the stripes are evenly spaced.
Next, use the 1" flat brush to paint the unmasked areas with gold paint. You can apply a second coat if needed but be sure to let the paint dry before you remove tape.
Last but not least, pick up the 1" flat brush again to (carefully!) paint the sides of all of the letters gold. You know the drill: Let the paint dry and apply a second coat if needed. When your letters are dry, position them wherever they're needed: On the dessert table at your engagement party, on your bridal shower venue's mantel, or at the head of the sweetheart table at the reception.
