It's no secret that George Clooney loves to praise and support his wife, the human rights lawyer and activist, Amal Clooney. He did just that at Variety's annual Power of Women luncheon by introducing himself to the crowd as "Mr. Amal Clooney." According to People, the endearing joke had the star-studded crowd cracking up-but it was definitely a proud sentiment that shows the depth of couple's bond.

Clooney added that he knew how to "read this room," which included some of the biggest female leaders of today, including Tiffany Haddish, Thandie Newton, Regina King, Lena Waithe, and Emma Gonzalez. Though Amal wasn't present for the event, George honored her accomplishments with the comment.

Amal recently spoke at another important female-focused function: the Pennsylvania Conference for Women. People reports that this event, in conjuntion with George's speaking role at Power of Women luncheon, was the reason why the Clooneys missed Princess Eugenie's royal wedding (they were previously reported to be on the guest list!). George's tequila made it to the reception, though, thanks to Jack Brooksbank's role as the U.K. Casamigos ambassador.

The couple may not have been able to experience Eugenie and Jack's festivities, but George's father, Nick, recently detailed another important celebration the couple did attend-the dinner party where Amal met the Clooney family. "She introduced herself to us and we talked," Nick revealed to People last year. "She was obviously very charming, gorgeous, and so clearly accomplished, but by the time we had supper that night, it was clear there was a kindness to her and an inclusiveness." He added that he believes that their relationship took off that very night: "I really think by the time that first [meeting] was over, his and her fates were sealed, both of them. She was so remarkable and he was so remarkable around her."
