Exclusive First Look: Houghton's Spring 2017 Bridal Collection
Houghton, the cutting-edge bridal brand, gave us a sneak peek at their new designs.
Before Bridal Fashion Week officially kicks off next week, Houghton is giving us an exclusive first look at their Spring 2017 collection. The NYC-based label is a favorite among brides who want to wear anything but a ball gown down the aisle.
"For my Spring/Summer 2017 collection, [I designed] gowns with Houghton's signature cutouts layered over lace bodysuits and catsuits [to] add dimension and texture along with a subtle sexiness," the label's designer and creative director, Katharine Polk, tells us. "I am working with voluminous, ruffled plissé lace that evokes a romantic silhouette with a modern edge." Need proof? Just check out the exclusive sketch of one of the new dresses above!
"The collection continues to be inspired by my Houghton girls and how they wear my pieces-every day to wedding day," Polk says. "Our woman wants to wear something modern that is fashion-forward and represents ready-to-wear runway fashion. They are looking for anything from a chic, white suit, to a two-piece set, or a simple silk column gown."
And judging by this season's mood board, it looks like Polk is staying true to her promise by offering up some seriously cool wedding looks inspired by the '90s, with references to supermodels Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell.
Houghton has also taken a cue from ready-to-wear by embracing the bodysuit trend (everyone from Kim Kardashian to Taylor Swift to Gigi Hadid has been rocking one lately). Teaming up with Commando, Houghton designed lacy bridal bodysuits to make your wedding quick-change seamless. You can can go from a floor-length skirt for your ceremony to a pair of pants for your reception.
But the best part of Houghton's upcoming collection? It is buy-now-wear-now, which means if you spot a look you love on the runway, you don't have to wait an entire season to snatch it up. Their "Shop the Runway" initiative lets brides pre-order styles online directly from the new collection. Plus, the first 100 brides to request a ticket to the April 16th Runway Show by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, will be able to attend the presentation, meet Polk, and be the first to shop the new styles. Polk explains this switch from the traditional runway model, saying, "I wanted to give our girls a chance to buy straight from the runway and do away with traditional bridal lead times by offering styles immediately for purchase during and following our presentation."
We can't wait to check out Houghton's new dresses, as well as all of the other amazing bridal designers showing at Bridal Fashion Week. Stay tuned for more runway coverage!
