Bridal Beauty Diaries: Meet Tiana!
Hey there! My name is Tiana and I can't even begin to express how thrilled I am to be a part of this incredible opportunity with Martha Stewart Weddings and Invisalign®! As I plan the details of my wedding, I will also be improving my smile with Invisalign and sharing the process with you along the way. Let me tell you about myself…
I was born and raised in sunny Oakland, California where I completed my undergrad, played collegiate basketball and met my fiancé, Bora. We both played for the same university and became very close when he signed on as my math tutor. Unfortunately he'd just gone through a tough breakup so he wasn't the friendliest. Over time he warmed up to my silly jokes, impersonations, and painfully awkward dance moves. We moved to Brooklyn, NY two years ago when I found an amazing opportunity in marketing at a major live entertainment company. I soon found my dream job in the same field for Gap's global marketing division where I am today.
Bora and I have been together for 10 years now and, at the risk of sounding delusional, it doesn't feel long at all. Bora was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey, and moved to the States when he was 21 years old. The first three years of our relationship were spent trying to learn and understand each other's backgrounds. I couldn't fully understand what he was saying until year four. (I'm only half kidding about that!) The fact that we're getting married is shocking to us and "about dang time" for others.
The vision we have is a step back in time to the days when Sarah Vaughn and Cab Calloway would light up the stage and their music was so rich that you felt wealthy. To put it in four words: Cotton Club, vintage, glamour. The wedding will be held in the historic Lake Merritt Hotel in Oakland. I fell in love with the large windows overlooking the lake, the art deco décor, and was completely sold when the event planner informed us that they've been marrying couples there since 1927. The idea that many couples have had the luxury of coming back and dining in the very place where they were married possibly 10, 20, 30+ years ago is so romantic to me. That is something I look forward to doing.
Now that our venue is set, I've been focusing on how I can enhance my look for the big day. One of the first things that comes to mind is the gap in my teeth. I've always had it, but as I've gotten older I've become more unhappy with it. I notice it in photos, while looking in the mirror, and I occasionally dream of what I'd look like without it. Invisalign treatment is of great interest to me because as a young woman in my field my appearance means a lot. I already look younger than I am, so braces aren't an option and thankfully they don't have to be! I am nervous and excited for this treatment and can't wait to update you all on the journey! Check back to see how this goes!
Disclosure: I have received complimentary treatment from the Invisalign brand in exchange for blogging about my bridal journey and treatment, and all opinions expressed are my own.
