Lena Dunham Serves as a Bridesmaid—and Her Outfit Is So Cool
The Girls creator was a bridesmaid for friend Audrey Gelman over the weekend, and you have to see the bridal party's mix-and-match skirts!
Lena Dunham might be the coolest bridesmaid ever. Recently, Dunham took up 'maid duties for her childhood friend Audrey Gelman, who happens to be the inspiration for Allison Williams's Girls character, Marnie. And of course, she looked chic and unique for the occasion.
Instead of the flowy purple twobirds Bridesmaids gowns Hannah Horvath and Co. wore for Marnie's on-screen wedding, the IRL bridesmaids wore beige turtlenecks and mix-and-match J.Crew skirts. "What happens when @jcrew goddess Jenna Lyons lets a bunch of crazy bitches customize their skirts," Dunham captioned the group photo on Instagram, which showed the skirts decorated in rhinestones, sequins, patches, and floral appliqués to show off each attendant's personality.
Dunham documented much of the weekend on Instagram, including the rehearsal dinner and the group of girls getting ready for the big event.
Gelman, an NYC PR guru, looked gorgeous in her all-over lace gown with a flower crown and Queen Anne's lace artfully placed in her long, wavy hair.
The uber-cool wedding, planned by design and event studio Madranas Custom Culture, was held in Detriot's Piquette Plant, a museum and former Ford factory, which reinforces what we already knew about industrial weddings being the hottest new wedding venue trend.
The bride changed into a jumpsuit for the reception, clearly owning the photo booth backdrop with her new husband, Genius.com co-founder Ilan Zechory.
After the wedding, the bridal party planted fruits and veggies in a city garden for Keep Growing Detroit, a food sovereign that promotes sustainability and provides food for those in immediate need.
