Couple Rocks Their Wedding Outfits 50 Years Later Just Because They Can
If the wedding dress still fits…
On October 1, 1966, Carole-Ann and Jim Stanfield of Tamworth, Staffordshire, tied the knot wearing the traditional white wedding dress and black suit. Fifty years later, in honor of their anniversary, they wore them again-and it was as if no time had passed at all.
The couple was searching for wedding photos to show their granddaughter, Hayley, when they stumbled upon the old garments. "When Hayley discovered we still had our wedding outfits, she said we should try them on to see if they still fit," Carole-Ann told The Telegraph. "Jim went up and dug them out. Hayley insisted we put them on but I said 'no' … they'd been in the loft and they were dusty and smelly."
After much "begging and pleading," Mr. and Mrs. Stanfield, now 74 and 71, respectively, obliged. "We were gobsmacked when we discovered they still fitted perfectly."
Soon, an anniversary party was in the works, and the husband and wife knew just what to wear. "A lot of people knew we were going to wear them, but they were still stunned to see us in them," Carole-Ann said of their guests. Amazingly, the ensembles needed no alterations: "They were completely untouched apart from having been washed and dry cleaned," the couple's granddaughter, Hayley, told The Huffington Post. "Me and my boyfriend got them down from the loft. And as a joke they tried them on, as I am so excited about anything wedding-based."
After wearing the wedding dress and suit a second time, it seems only natural that the pair would embark on a second honeymoon as well. The Stanfields are planning to go to Turkey this time-they honeymooned in Malta 50 years ago.
Of their first meeting, Carole-Ann said, "Jim loved my big blonde hair, and I loved his humor-he is such a comedian and always makes me laugh. I think that's the key. We have very different interests and hobbies, but the laughter is what keeps us strong."
