Should We Encourage Groomsmen to Rent Their Wedding Attire?
Let's take a look at the pros and cons.
Deciding what your groomsmen should wear for the wedding is usually pretty straightforward once you've determined your venue and the formality of the event. While we all have hilarious movie montage flashbacks to men in ill-fitted tuxedos dancing around dressing rooms (a la Dumb and Dumber), renting is actually a great option for the modern groomsman. Sites like The Black Tux and Stitch & Tie offer stylish, affordable rentals, but you can also depend on your local rental company to have plenty of options on their racks, too.
Here, we take a look at some of the pros and cons of renting so you can make the decision that's best for your specific group.
Pro: They're affordable.
Rental suits are not a huge investment, and they'll generally cost your groomsmen less than if they were to purchase a brand-new suit for the occasion.
Pro: There are a lot of options.
Gone are the days of basic, boring suit rentals; now, you have a plethora of options to choose from, and you can browse and order both in stores and online. In addition to the shops we mentioned above, there are countless other options for rentals that'll deliver big-day looks right to your groomsmen's doorsteps.
Con: A custom-fit won't be possible.
Your groomsmen won't be able to get their outfits tailored, but this usually isn't a huge issue as most rental companies offer a variety of different sizes. However, if you have a group with especially tall or wide guys, make sure you confirm that the rental company you've chosen has something that'll work for them.
Pro: You can ensure everyone matches.
Renting is an easy way to ensure all the guys actually match from head to toe on your wedding day. Though that isn't a necessity, it creates a nice, clean look that most couples prefer.
Con: It'll require careful coordination.
Coordinating the fittings, receipt, returns, and damage issues can be more annoying than the process of just purchasing new suits. Every company has different terms, so you'll want to make sure you understand the rules before asking everyone to place their orders.
Pro: There are still ways to make their looks unique.
In today's rental market, you can actually borrow individual pieces, not just a whole suit. This is great if you know all your groomsmen have their own white shirts and black slacks but need matching jackets to finish the look. It's also a good choice if you plan to gift the groomsmen a stand-out accessory, like a special shirt or tie, and therefore only need to rent just certain pieces of their look.
