Meghan Markle's Mom, Doria Ragland, Helped Her Host Her First Royal Event
This marked Ragland's first trip to London since the royal wedding.
Meghan Markle just hosted her first royal event with a very special guest in tow. Though Prince Harry acted as her official co-host-the royals held a lunch at Kensington palace to support Together: Our Community Cookbook with London's Hubb Community Kitchen-Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, was also there to support her landmark endeavor. The occassion also signified Doria's return trip to the U.K., her first since attending the royal wedding in May.
It also gave Doria a chance to see her daughter's work up close. The meal served at the luncheon highlighted several of the recipes in the book, many of which Meghan helped chefs prepare, reports People. In a speech to guests, which included members of the local public and the Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre, the Duchess (who also penned the cookbook's forward!) warmly thanked the women of the community kitchen for making her feel welcome, noting that she was proud to live in a city that was so multicultural.
Pride was clearly the common thread throughout the day. Photos from the event show Doria proudly watching her daughter address her audience and speaking with her guests. That feeling was reciprocated-Meghan seemed equally delighted to introduce her mother to the women of the organization, which she's actively worked with since January. Doria seemed just as thrilled about and impressed by the project. According to another People source, Doria told a guest that she was "head over heals" about the cookbook, and that she looks forward to recreating the recipes at home. "I'm going to make everything, I'm serious," she said.
As Meghan becomes more comfortable in the royal spotlight, it's evident that she draws much of her poise and strength from her mom. Meghan's longtime friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin recently told People that "Meghan draws a lot of strength from her mother. Doria is classy, chic, and confident, but not unapproachable. I definitely feel Meghan gets a lot of that from her mother."
