Elton John Still Hasn't Received His Royal Wedding Invitation
Did Elton John's royal wedding invitation get lost in the mail? The singer, who was a close friend of Princess Diana and has been mentioned as a potential reception performer, said that he has yet to receive his official invite to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding, reports the Daily Mail.
"We haven't had an invitation yet," he explained. The royal wedding invitations were mailed out last week, which means that John certainly should have received his by now-especially since the knighted entertainer doesn't live far from St. George's Chapel, where the couple will exchange vows. But John joked that nothing will stop him from showing his support for Prince Harry on his wedding day. "I live on a hill, so I could just roll down there," he said, referring to his Windsor, England, residence. "It's rolling distance."
Comedy aside, it'd be quite hard to believe that the Rocket Man wouldn't be included. He attended Prince William and Kate Middleton's union in 2012 and was a beloved friend of princes' late mother. John has also been very vocal in his support of Harry and Markle's impending marriage. "I spent some time with [Prince Harry] at Google camp in Sicily last summer and I could tell that he was totally in love. And I thought, 'Good for you,' he told ITV's Lorraine last year.
We'll have to wait to see if the entertainer makes an appearance (or a performance!), but with just about 50 days until the royal wedding, the waiting game is almost over. We're so close, in fact, that the wedding's security measures have just been rolled out, reports Entertainment Tonight. The Thames Valley Police, a precinct that regularly monitors royal events, just announced that security will be incredibly tight on May 19, since the celebration is anticipated to draw 100,000 people. "We are working with our partners, local businesses and the community to deliver a safe, secure and happy event for everyone," affirmed Thames Valley Police Assistant Chief Constable David Hardcastle, revealing that license plate recogonition programs, random searches, and transportation patrols will be in full effect.
