Wedding Favor Recipes
Earl Gray Tea Cookies
Tea is twice as nice coupled with cookies flavored the same way. These shortbread cookies were made by mixing Earl Gray tea leaves into the batter, then we packaged them in boxes with tea bags and wrapped them in paper that reflects the color of this wedding.
Espresso Fudge Brownies
Blue-and-white packaging complements dark coffee favors including chocolate-covered espresso and coffee beans, homemade coffee truffles, and espresso fudge brownies, which we covered in cellophane and wrapped in dotted paper and tied with ribbon.
Share romantic wishes with your guests in homemade chocolate cookies. Handwrite or photocopy lines from classic love poems, or make up your own fortunes; the strips of paper should be about 6 inches long and a little less than 1/2 inch wide.
Caramel and Fleur de Sel Popcorn
Welcome guests with a bag of crunchy homemade caramel corn. Have friends or a caterer make the snack a day or two before the wedding, and store it airtight so it stays fresh. A few hours before the wedding, place in bags, fold the top, and staple on a label. This makes a great favor if you happen to be getting married in the cornhusker state, Nebraska.
Pink Shortbread Stripes
A color unifies a selection of cookies. Here, we made pink striped shortbread cookies and mixed them with store-bought goodies in the same color. We packaged them in glassine bags and tied them with matching pink ribbons.
Texas Spice Rub
This recipe can be easily multiplied and keeps well, so you can make it in advance. The spice rub is delicious with steak, pork chops, or chicken. Rub about 1 tablespoon of the mixture onto an 8-ounce portion, and grill or broil immediately.
Mini Coconut-Macadamia Bundt Cakes
These homemade mini Bundt cakes make great wedding favors when packaged in individual gift boxes.
Caramel apples bring out the kid in everyone and make the perfect souvenir for an informal afternoon wedding. Each piece of candy-coated fruit is wrapped in a sheet of cellophane and tied with waxed cord; bright paper scrolls are hole-punched three times and speared by bamboo skewers.
The Milanese serve panettone, a sweet bread made with dried fruit and citrus zest, on special occasions. It is traditionally baked in a large panettone mold, but we baked ours in mini paper ones.
This little jar of homemade peach preserves relies on nothing more than peaches, sugar, and a squeeze of lemon for its orchard-fresh flavor. We created our own printed stick-on label, added it to a Weck jar from Glashaus, and tied a linen ribbon around the top.
Sugar Cookie Wedding Cakes
Basic sugar cookies become elegant wedding favors when stacked to resemble miniature wedding cakes and topped with sugar flowers. Each sugar cookie cake was spread with royal icing, then assembled once the frosting was set.
Italian Meringue Drops
At the end of the reception, send guests on their way with sweet kisses. Along with traditional meringues, we included some flavored with coffee and chocolate; as a finishing touch, their bases are dipped in bittersweet chocolate. Package in clear plastic boxes lined with patterned paper and tied with a ribbon.
Perfect for a casual affair, this Southwestern popcorn is packaged in cones made out of paper. The spice mixture can be made in advance; store it in an airtight container in a cool, dark place up to six months.
Mexican Wedding Cookies
Pastelitos de boda (literally, "wedding cookies") are a traditional dessert at Mexican weddings. Made with walnuts, pecans, or almonds, they're a sweet way to thank guests for sharing the day.
Espresso Swiss Meringues
We put these espresso swiss meringues in biodegradable bowls, wrapped them with gauzy fabric and labeled them with paper strips that are laser printed in a pretty font.
Gypsy Pepper Jelly
Shortbread-Rhubarb Sandwich Cookies
Everyone knows you and your groom are cut out for each other; these monogrammed shortbread sandwich cookies just drive home the point. Let store-bought cookie cutters do the heavy lifting; we started with a round ruffly one to get the shape, then mini alphabet cutters for the monogram. Between the layers? Sweet-tart rhubarb jam -- another perfect match. We used mini alphabet cutters by R&M from Amazon.com and a heart aspic cutter by Ateco.
Key Lime Sables
Homemade Key lime cookies are a delicious variation on Florida's famed Key lime pie and make a great regional favor.
