Blake Lively Reveals the Reason She Married Ryan Reynolds
Well, besides the obvious.
As if we needed any more proof that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds belong together. In her cover interview for Marie Claire's July issue, Lively discussed her upcoming movies, motherhood, and married life-namely, what made her decide to marry Reynolds in the first place. "I knew he would always be my best friend for my whole life," The Shallows actress explained. "That was the biggest thing to me. I'd never known anything like the friendship that I had with him. I could like him as much as I loved him."
Lively said "I do" to her best friend in a gorgeous Charleston wedding in September 2012-and we had the exclusive inside look at their big day!
Since then, the couple has welcomed a daughter, 16-month-old James (who Lively says has inherited her own "clammy hands" and "heavy eyelids") and are currently expecting a second child. Despite her busy career, Lively has made it clear where her focus is: "All my eggs are in one basket, and that's my family. That's where my heart is. That's where my everything is."
Famously private about her personal life, Lively is careful to spare her family the stress of the spotlight. "[My family]'s the thing that I feel most protective of and the thing that I feel is the most exposed when I feel exploited." Case in point: She and Reynolds want to avoid the paparazzi as much as possible. "Ryan had a nice, normal upbringing, and we want our kids to have the same normal life that we had," Lively said. "We don't ever want to rob them of what we had, because we'd feel really selfish."
